First of all, Wanda, it's polite to say 'please', and you should always end a question with a question mark. They look like this ?

Are you confused by the formula? It states that there is a quantity called V which is equal to L multiplied by w multiplied by h.

I have made L a capital letter to make things less confusing. That small l looks a bit like a figure 1.

You are told that

V equals 144 cubic inches (That's a measurement of "volume")
w equals 4 inches (You know what an inch is?)
h equals 6 inches

You are asked to find the value of L.

w could mean 'width', h could mean 'height' and L could mean 'length'

Well, V is a volume expressed in cubic inches, so L is going to be inches, like w and h. That means, the expected answer is going to be a number, and the word 'inches' after the number.

So you are told that 144 cu. in. = L x 4 inches x 6 inches, and you have to find L.

It may help to speak it aloud. A hundred and fourty-four equals Ell times four times six.

144 = L x 4 x 6

we know that 4 x 6 = 24, so

144 = L x 24

Now you need to change the equation around so that L is on one side of the equals sign and everything else is on the other.

That is so simple I'm not going to insult your intelligence (or do your homework) by doing it for you.
