I'm in College Physics now, and the books said that the force on a charged particle is equal to qvXB where q is the charge of the particle, v is it's velocity in a Cartisian Vector and B is the Magnetic Field also in a Vector. My question that the teach could not answer is: Why? I would love an inteligent answer. The only thing I coudl come up with is: THe Charged particale creates a magnetic field that constantly tends to 'correct' itself in said direction.

There is no "why" to it. The Lorentz force is an empirical fact that your equation describes. Within the theoretical framework of electrodynamics, it is elementary and axiomatic, just as the Maxwell equations are.

Electrodynamics is not a theory of everything. The question is beyond the scope of modern electrodynamics, as I was saying, but that does not make it theoretically unanswerable.

In this case, I'm afraid you'll have to wait until physicists develop a satisfactory theory of everything. Maybe they will one day. On the other hand, they've been trying without much success for at least the last 50 years. I wish you luck in getting an answer, though I hope you won't be holding your breath.

You've got me wrong, Thomas. lVlr was the one thinking he could find the answer. I was merely being the voice of reason here, and pointing out what was wrong with his theories.

I apologize for confusing you with IVIr.

Wow!!!
As I said I am in college now, and I haven't been able to look at these boards for a bit. Couldn't believe all the messages when I popped on. I can't read them tonight, but thank you very much for all the interest. I will be reading them soon. (I've ust had the quarterly tests and I've been up to my ears in it.)
