Hey, I'm doing a Physics presentation based on Steel used for Boilers in a Steam Locomotive, and I just need a little help drawing some facts and figures together of relevance...
Basically I need to say WHY Steel is the best material to use, WHAT properties it has which make it suitable and linked to that WHAT requirements its use in Steam Locomotives are...
For starters, does anyone know the price of the steel used in Steam Locomotive Boilers?
And could anyone suggest requirements of the steel and what properties make it suitable? Pleasey, if you know anything you think would help..
I have got a lot of info already in the presentation, but I'm just SO stuck at the moment...
These links to articles on the How Stuff Works website may help you:

I thought steam engines use wood or coal or gas.
Steel wont burn that well you know!
Here are some more links dealing with the specific issue of the steel in your question:

This one is just interesting and probably a really good source for you to get detailed info on the specs for the steel since they are rebuilding the steam boiler for their train as we speak.

Not sure if this one is of any help or not. My eyes started to glaze over by the time I got to this one:

No-one happens to know where I can find a video of a Steam Loco Boiler explosion?
Or just a scenario type video thing.... With graphics as opposed to the real thing...
By the way, if you get published, I want research credit in the footnotes.
Brillianté!! Thanks again Butrflynet!!
And you bet!!
