Yeah, I definitely want a second opinion, it's just that I already paid so much to the one vet, and she doesn't want to give me a referral to a specialist until I pay her some more. But thanks to the link boomerang posted, I think I'm going to take her to a place that looks a little nicer and see what they say anyway. There is still the issue of money, of course. I wouldn't go in hock over 2 grand. But if it's anywhere less than that I think I will treat her, provided the outcome has good odds.
Nothing productive to add, just chiming in with support. Only 3, poor kitty. I've definitely thought about this in the context of getting a pet, how far I'd go to save him or her. I don't know. Further than was typical in my house growing up, but $5,000 -- wow.
Boomer's link looks fabulous, hope that helps.
I know here in Austin ( and I have SOOO not seen what Boom gave you ) they have groups that help pay for expensive procedures like this one.
Often they are under animal rescue sites.
Maybe you could see if there is one in your area?
or at least , SERIOUSLY discounted animal care......
I'm glad to hear that Credit Care might help out - those decisions are tough enough without money being the biggest factor in deciding.
I can't believe that your vet won't give you a referral after you've asked for it. At the referral clinic here it is true that you can't get in without your regular vet sending you there but once you ask for a referral it should be given.
I've been to the referral clinic here a couple of times and it literally was the only thing that saved my pet's life.
Make sure you get all of her vet records showing what has been done. If they have already done one biopsy I can't imagine why they would require another.
I've been in that test/test/test/money/money/money cycle. I'm jaded now. The "more testing" response leads me to demand a referral to a specialist.
FreeDuck - you will know if your pet is suffering and in pain.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Little Mama. She sounds like a cool cat.
