Hi again Dutchy. While you're on line may I pick your brain please.
This is not a competition crossword, but I am stuck on one clue - 1down - "Significance of final blow delivered by referee? (4,4) I have F-L- --M-. The answer in the back of the book is Full Time, but I can't figure out how it works. Can you explain?
Hi grannylynne
As I see it, a referee uses his whistle throughout the game at various times, for infringements, halt of play etc. His last and FINAL BLOW of the whistle is to END a match. For a soccer match eg. that is 90 minutes plus injury time. Once time is up that it is FULL TIME.
If you follow Aussie Rules it is perhaps somewhat confusing as they use the Siren to end a match and not the referees whistle.
Hope you can follow me.
Thank you Dutchy. I can see it quite clearly as I read your explanation. Somehow I knew that would happen. I can usually figure out the cryptics without too much trouble, but that one just wouldn't come. By the way, I'm not an AFL person, so I do know what you are talking about.
