Shoobh deen.
Mera naam Dagmar hai (did I get my own gender wrong?)
Mai Hindi boltee naheen, but I will learn!

I'd appreciate if those who can would write simple sentences at me. I'll try to decipher what they mean and respond... hopefully something will stick in my mind. If anyone else wants to hop on this departing train and learn Hindi with me, now is the time.

Weeeeeeee!

Sawan - sometime before August, I think. Not exactly sure yet (you did ask when will I get married, yes?)

Ham pite rahenge!

Except, no alcoholic drinks I'm afraid. There will have to be a special party for that. Ugh, this is hard. I need to get a book. Looking up things online takes soo ooo oooo long!

Sorry for being a nit-picker....

You must say:
Main *achhi* hoon. Shukriyaa.

Acchii cause you're female. accha is when the "Main" is male....

Main = Mai (NN) Mai with nasal n
Ah is male; ii or ee is female.

Tumhara = yours (male)
Tumhari = yours (female)

So, "sarah" would be a male form of "saree", purely theoretically speaking

Well u are actually right.... Sarah or Saree means "All"

Saree means all those objects grouped under feminine or Neuter Gender

Saraah means all those objects grouped under masculine gender

If you say "All" in english u cannot guess what is the gender of the group

But in hindi you would either say "Saraa" or "Saree" thus indicating the gender of the things u r referring to.

Achcha. (Acknowledging your response to kahan rehti, and kya kaam karti hain.) Main = I. And Main (some write in English as Mein to differentiate from the I) = in.

Main theek hoon. Aap ko aaj kam par nahin jaana hai?

Think of it this way...you could be learning Mandarin...

PS: Your fellow is a lucky guy. You're learning his language already.

PPS: If you have Indian stores where you live, try borrowing Bollywood DVDs - most of them are subtitled. Two titles I can recommend 'Monsoon Wedding' or 'Bollywood/Hollywood' - a little for the entertainment value if you can get into the dance & drama, a lot for the easier-to-follow and well subtitled Hindi.
