and 19A Chill encountered in artIC Expedition gives you ICE.

That's what I'm going with, but maybe we need confirmation?

Forgot about 22A, sounds like grub (chow) and goodbye in Italian is CIAO

Thank you perthgirl, lezzles for your reply. I did not have ramraiders for 8d - never came across the word earlier. Looked it up: it comes with a hyphen between the two words. I conclude that I am impatient with the cryptics - eg take 22a: even though I got the answer right, I missed the obvious 'sounds like grub'. Once again, thanks, both, for taking the trouble to reply.

Sadly, it's one of those words that has now become commonplace in the big smoke, with robbers driving cars through shop windows to get to the loot.
