I'm sure most of the music lovers on this forum have already heard about Pandora. But just in case someone out there hasn't, I'm going to post this link:
http://www.pandora.com
Pandora is a pretty cool site where you can create your own radio stations. You can create over a hundred of them if you want to. (Btw, sorry to the members in Europe! Pandora is only available in the US.)
The way it works is, you plug in the name of a song, artist or band that you like - and they search through their extensive data base and hook you up with songs or artists that are musically similar. You can discover some artists you weren't aware of, or maybe you might be reminded of songs that you always liked, but had forgotten about.
For instance, I felt like listening to some blues today, so I plugged in Barbara Dane, who is a great jazz and blues singer. I got lots of great blues music. I was just listening to T.B. Blues by Leon Redbone, which was pretty good.
I also liked "She Stabbed Me With An Ice Pic Blues" by the Memphis Jug Band. Not bad!
But if you don't particularly want to listen to a guy singing about how his woman up and stabbed him with an ice pic one day - and how all the neighbor people laughed, coz' they thought he was mean and he deserved it - then, of course, you could plug in another artist or band!
The only thing is, you can't download the music - at least, not from Pandora.
I enjoy visiting the Pandora site regularly to see what they have for me. It's fun. Check it out!
