SCOOTED INTO CANAL....
PENSIONER Phyllis Reed had to be rescued after falling into a canal with her mobility scooter.
Non-swimmer Phyllis, 74, and a friend were standing by the Grand Western Canal in Tiverton, Devon, when her hand accidentally caught the reverse gear and she plunged into the water.
A passer-by pulled her out and she was treated in hospital for bruising.
Daughter Heather Reed said: "Next day we took a garden rake to retrieve her false teeth and keys from the bottom of the canal - she was more upset about losing her teeth than the £1,000 scooter."

Yes, I can quite see why the necessity of having to masticate one's food with one's gums might be more of a bother than the loss of a machine which she, apparently, had no business driving anyway. But, y'know, you take £ 1,000 here, £ 1,000 there -- pretty soon you're talking about real money.
