The Monte Python troupe said depression was part of being Scots. So do all the Scots' folk singers I listen to in these parts.

I think Scotland has been exporting fighting men over the last five hundred years or so. They have served in most of the battles of Europe. Interestingly, last year I was in Paris and engraved on the inside of the Arc de Triomphe are a list on Napoleon's campaign victories, as well as the names of his generals. Several of these are Scottish.

But evidently they fought on both sides

the picture i posted is from the one and only battle that the scots lost to the english .
it has been reported reliably that many battles were fought between the english and the scots , and all but one were won by the scots . here is the authentic report from that battle .
the scots were driving the english back ...
suddenly a cry from the scots : " i lost my penny ! "
in the ensuing mayhem when the scots were looking for the penny , the english took over scotland .
