Ben has only ducks and cows. He can't remember how many of each he has. He doesn't know that he has 22 animals, which is his age. He also remembers that those animals have a total of 56 legs, which is his father's age. Assuming that each animal is normal, how many of each does Ben have?

This is a simple simultaneous equation easily solved by 12 year olds.
Try the sequence of expressions..
22x2+(22-22)x4=44
20x2+(22-20)x4=48
19x2+(22-19)x4=50
18x2+(22-18)x4=52
