How Can I Miss You (When You Won't Go Away)
(Dan Hicks)

I've talked to your mother and I've talked to your dad,
They say they've tried but it's all in vain.
I've begged and I've pleaded, I even got mad,
Now we must face it, you give me a pain.

cho: How can I miss you when you won't go away?
I keep telling you day after day,
But you won't listen, you always stay and stay,
How can I miss you when you won't go away?

Out of three billion people, why must it be me?
OhOh why, oh why won't you cut me loose?
D Do me a favor and listen to my plea
I'm not the only chicken in the roost.

Your never-ending presence really cramps my style,
I dream that it won't always be the same.
At first I was attracted, but after a while,
Have you ever heard of a "hard to get" dame?"

Yeah.
He gets a little silly sometimes, but every now and then he writes a line or two
that just clobber me.

For me, the 1966 Left Banke song "Walk Away Renee" seemed to speak universally for any young boy in love. The writer was only 16 years old when he wrote the song. Renee was the real name of the girl he was infatuated with.

Quote:
Walk Away Renee

And when I see the sign that
points one way
The lot we used to pass by
every day

Just walk away Renee,
You won't see me follow you back home
The empty sidewalks on my
block are not the same
You're not to blame

From deep inside the tears that
I'm forced to cry
From deep inside the pain
I chose to hide

Just walk away Renee,
You won't see me follow you back home
Now as the rain beats down
upon my weary eyes
For me it cries

Your name and mine inside
a heart upon a wall
Still finds a way to haunt me,
though they're so small

Just walk away Renee,
You won't see me follow you back home
The empty sidewalks on my
block are not the same
You're not to blame

"You'd say I'm putting you on
But it's no joke, it's doing me harm
You know I can't sleep, I can't stop my brain
You know it's three weeks, I'm going insane
You know I'd give you everything I've got
for a little peace of mind" - I'm so Tired - Beatles

@panzade,
billy bragg's version

Walk Away Renee (Version)
Billy Bragg

She said it was just a figment of speech
And I said "You mean figure" And she said "No, figment"
Because she could never imagine it happening. But it did

When we first met I played the Shy boy
When she spoke to me for the first time my nose began to bleed
She guessed the rest

The next day we went on a bus ride to the ferry
And when nobody came to collect our fares
Well I knew then this was something special
I couldn't stop thinking about her
And every time I switched on the radio
There was somebody else singing a song about the two of us

It was just like being on a fast ride at the fun fair
The sort you want to get off because its scary
And then as soon as you're off you want get straight back on again
But all love is strange
And you have to learn to take the crunchy with the smooth I suppose

She began going out with Mr. Potato Head
It was when I saw her in he car park
With his coat around her shoulders that I realized
I went home and thought about the two of them together
Until the bathwater went cold around me
I thought about her eyes and the curve of her breasts
And about the point where their bodies met

I confronted her about it
I said, "I'm the most illegible bachelor in town" And she said "Yeah that's why I could never understand any of those silly letters you sent me"
And then one day it happened
She cut her hair and I stopped loving her

I'm impressed. Your foray into Billie is reaping rewards.
Irene was an interesting woman in the early jazz days

I just know that she wrote that song, and I only like it when Billie sings it.

"Your Feet's Too Big"

Say up in Harlem at a table for two
There were four of us
Me, your big feet and you
From your ankles up, I'd say you sure are sweet
From there down; there's just too much feet
Yes, your feets too big
Don't want ya, 'cause ya feets too big
Can't use ya, 'cause ya feets too big
I really hate ya, 'cause ya feets too big

Your girl, she likes you, she thinks you're nice
Got what it takes to be in paradise
She said she likes your face
She likes your rig.
Man, oh, man, those things are too big
Your feets too big
Don't want cha, 'cause ya feets too big
Mad at you, 'cause your feets too big
I hate you, 'cause your feets too big

Oh, your pedal extremities are colossal
To me you look just like a fossil
Got me walkin', talkin' and squawkin'
'Cause your feets too big

Your pedal extremities really are obnoxious!

Wi' Nae Wee Bairn Ye'll Me Beget
The Magnetic Fields

Wi' nae wee bairn ye'll me beget Untwinkle, little ee
My ainly pang'll be regret. A maiden I will dee

but i'll turn into a nightengale and song will warm my heart
well i'll turn into a threshing machine and tear that bird apart

Wi' nae wee bairn ye'll me beget Untwinkle, little ee
My ainly pang'll be regret. A maiden I will dee

but i'll turn into a vampire in case you own a neck
well i'll turn into a silver cross and send me back to heck

Wi' nae wee bairn ye'll me beget Untwinkle, little ee
My ainly pang'll be regret. A maiden I will dee

but i'll turn into a hydrogen bomb and atomize the air
well i'll turn into a cockroack and you'll see if i care

Wi' nae wee bairn ye'll me beget Untwinkle, little ee
My ainly pang'll be regret. A maiden I will dee

but i'll turn into a super nova and burn up everything
well i'll turn into a black little hole and youll turn into string

Wi' nae wee bairn ye'll me beget Untwinkle, little ee
My ainly pang'll be regret. A maiden I will dee

but i'll turn into GOD himself and you will come to me
then i will not believe in you and then where will you be?

Wi' nae wee bairn ye'll me beget Untwinkle, little ee
My ainly pang'll be regret. A maiden I will dee

My ainly pang'll be regret. A maiden I will dee
