For me it's a toss-up between Sheila E and Michael Bland?

Any other suggestions?

My opinion - Dave Lombardo.

Not everyones cup of tea with the TYPE of music he plays

but this man is fantastic.

He is able to play really fast, for long periods of time on many diffrent beats.
He has won many awards for his ability and is apparently able to play many diffrent styles of drums, and music.

To add to the list:

Jimmy Chamberlain from Smashing Pumpkins.

Stuart Copeland from The Police.

keith moon wasn't shabby

*but*, outside of rock, Max Roach, Art Blakey, and Tony Williams were the greatest ever, in approximately that order. Cool

Philly Jo, and his successor with Miles, Jimmy Cobb, were both underrated, IMO. also, Philly Jo's cousin maybe? Elvin Jones, was dynamic.

After seing Sheila E give it all on the drums she most defiantly "Rocks"

But for me it would have to be Mitch Mitchell the legendary drummer for Jimmi Hendrix.

I was going to say Ginger Baker

But it's got to be Gene Kruper!

both Bonham & Baker are pretty much the ones to beat but Keith Moon from The Who & Roger Taylor of Queen have played some good stuff.

People often knock Ringo. To them I say this: many of your favorite Beatles tunes contain airy drum fills that, though sometimes innocuous, are indelible nonetheless.

For example, think of the drum fill that opens "Lovely Rita," right after that incredible opening accoustic lick. Da bum, da-da-da, bum-bum-bum...

Very simple, but that song wouldn't be the same without it.

Same goes for Come Together, and a bunch of songs really.
