This is an appropriate song to post just after Christmas when families came together for their annual holiday battles. I am including the words because they're hilarious: its the funniest song since Finnegan's Wake!

lyrics:

Blood wedding

Telfer/Prosser/Jones
Momentum Music. p 1994 Cooking Vinyl

Lyrics from: Trawler

Do you take this woman? I said, yes I do
I love her like crazy
& I think she loves me too
But we'll do without the family
if it's all the same to you
happy ever after
Your mother is a flake,
my father's full of shite
Your sister says you married me in white
just for spite
Well a party's not a party
till it ends up in a fight
happy ever after

And there was my lot and your lot
and us two in between
This is the last time I get married
(please God)
This is the last time I get married

My brother's never short
of a substance to abuse
Rum & glue & Thunderbird
& wizz & Special Brew
Any minute now he'll show us
ALL of his tattoos
happy ever after
Nephews are obnoxious, nieces are too tall
A dozen drunken uncles
are pissing up the wall
Grandad is grinning
but there's no one home at all
happy ever after

For richer, for poorer,
for better or for worse
Now we are married, a blessing or a curse
Kiss me & don't forget
What you see is what you get

And the best man is the worst man,
the best man is a beast
Underneath the table
with the sister of the priest
The way he's going at it
she is probably deceased
happy ever after
Granny's on the brandy, getting bleary-eyed
Guys I went to school with
want to see me outside
Someone's pulled the bridesmaid.
Anyone seen the bride?
happy ever after

@plainoldme,
If I am ever dumb enough to marry again, I want the oysters to play at my wedding. This would be the recessional!

@plainoldme,
Speaking of Finnegan's Wake . . . here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DU97TGbp6po

With Tom's wonderful intro

Tim Finnegan lived in Walkin Street,
A gentle Irishman mighty odd
He had a brogue both rich and sweet,
An' to rise in the world he carried a hod
You see he'd a sort of a tipplers way
but for the love for the liquor poor Tim was born
To help him on his way each day,
he'd a drop of the craythur every morn

Whack fol the dah now dance to yer partner
round the flure yer trotters shake
Bend an ear to the truth they tell ye,
we had lots of fun at Finnegan's Wake

One morning Tim got rather full,
his head felt heavy which made him shake
Fell from a ladder and he broke his skull, and
they carried him home his corpse to wake
Rolled him up in a nice clean sheet,
and laid him out upon the bed
A bottle of whiskey at his feet
and a barrel of porter at his head

His friends assembled at the wake,
and Widow Finnegan called for lunch
First she brought in tay and cake,
then pipes, tobacco and whiskey punch
Biddy O'Brien began to cry,
"Such a nice clean corpse, did you ever see,
Tim, auvreem! O, why did you die?",
"Will ye hould your gob?" said Paddy McGee

Then Maggie O'Connor took up the cry,
"O Biddy" says she "you're wrong, I'm sure"
Biddy gave her a belt in the gob
and sent her sprawling on the floor
Then the war did soon engage,
t'was woman to woman and man to man
Shillelagh law was all the rage
and a row and a ruction soon began

Mickey Maloney ducked his head
when a bucket of whiskey flew at him
It missed, and falling on the bed,
the liquor scattered over Tim
Now the spirits new life gave the corpse, my joy!
Tim jumped like a Trojan from the bed
Cryin will ye walup each girl and boy,
t'underin' Jaysus, do ye think I'm dead?"

@edgarblythe,
edgar, That was hilarious. Know them all three, too.

Another Sir Walter Scott. Rob Roy.

There is a Disney live action film of Rob Roy, made in 1953, that has lots of nice music and action. I have not seen Liam's version.

@edgarblythe,
Love that telling song by Webb, edgar. Reminds me a bit of Birmingham Jail.

We've discussed this before, but the original book of the Phantom of the Opera we see this in the prologue.

Gaston Leroux claims that Erik, the "Phantom of the Opera", was a real person.
