@edgarblythe,
I heard him on npr today. He can barely speak. Has he had cancer?

@plainoldme,
I don't know. He has always been hoarse, until he sings. Hard to say. He just released a new album.

I'll respond to you in letters

Sorry so slow, sorry so few

In a nutshell, I'm much better

So far the complaints I hear are few

So how have you been? have you been to the races? did you take my mother --

Is your sister in braces? I wish I could've been there to see you through

Hey, are all those things you told me once still true?

Do you remember that time

It was cold in the park

You were running a race, I was there on a lark

Who would've thought that new york could be such a small town

Margaret is tired,

Let's let her get some sleep

Bored with these letters,

Let her count her sheep

So goodbye love, goodbye love...

Here are two songs that tell stories, although the story for the second song is more interesting and meaningful. Together, these clips illustrate what a great band oysterband is:

@edgarblythe,
Great story, edgar. Ah the depression and the dust bowl.

Here's another that tells a fairy tale, but with a profound message by Oscar Wilde.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ixd9gPjiN4s&feature=related

When I was a kid and read that one, I cried my eyes out.

the end of the story.

"Bring me the two most precious things in the city," said God to one of His Angels; and the Angel brought Him the leaden heart and the dead bird.
"You have rightly chosen," said God, "for in my garden of Paradise this little bird shall sing for evermore, and in my city of gold the Happy Prince shall praise me."

Brought another to my eye

@edgarblythe,
Saw Belafonte on The Daily Show. Why he physically shows his age, his wit is razor sharp.

@plainoldme,
I haven't seen him lately. I do occasionally read his quotes and he is right in synch with what I want from him, still.

@edgarblythe,
Belafonte did some verbal sparring with Stewart and it was fun. Belafonte was obviously enjoying himself. It is reassuring at my age (which I think is close to yours) to see an 84 year old who still is strong of mind.

Xanadu lyrics

A place where nobody dared to go
The love that we came to know
They call it Xanadu.

And now open your eyes and see
What we have made is real.
We are in Xanadu.

A million lights are dancing
And you're here with me
Eternally

Xanadu Xanadu (now we are here)
In Xanadu
Xanadu Xanadu (now we are here)
in Xanadu

Xanadu
your neon lights will shine
For you Xanadu.

The love
The echoes of long ago
You needed the world to know
They are in Xanadu.

The dream that came through a million years
That lived on through all the tears
It came to Xanadu.

A million lights are dancing
And you're here with me
Eternally

Xanadu Xanadu (now we are here)
In Xanadu
Xanadu Xanadu (now we are here)
In Xanadu

Now that I'm here now that you're near in Xanadu.
Now that I'm here now that you're near in Xanadu.
Xanadu

@edgarblythe,
Love that song, edgar. Brenda did a great job.

Song that tells art.

Degas' bronze ballerina fails to sell in NYC.

Funny how Degas can take a subject I ordinarily do not care about and turn it into something magical. If it was instead a series of photos, I would not bother looking.
