This is not even a song, but I don't have another thread it can fit in.

@edgarblythe,
Hey, edgar, there's a song that goes with that. I don't remember seeing that movie, but I certainly know the song. Incidentally, I didn't know all those WWI songs either.

Another song that tells a story.

Moon River:

This came from Breakfast at Tiffany's

The story behind the song, Texas.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/3561782/The-story-behind-the-song-Moon-River.html

As you know, Johnny Mercer wrote the lyrics and Henry Mancini the music.

Lyrics:

Moon River, wider than a mile,
I'm crossing you in style some day.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
We're after the same rainbow's end--
waiting 'round the bend,
my huckleberry friend,
Moon River and me.

Here's the Emily song by Tony.

I saw The Americanization twice, letty. Don't recall the song. But it's fitting.

@edgarblythe,
A beautiful song ,edgar

Emily, Emily, Emily
Has the murmuring sound of May
All silver bells, coral shells, carousels
And the laughter of children at play

Say Emily, Emily, Emily
And we fade to a marvelous view
Two lovers alone and out of sight
Seeing images in the firelight
As my eyes visualize a family
They see Emily, Emily

oops,letty beat me to it. Great minds think alike.

My take on Breakfas at Tiffany's is different than the norm, letty. I consider Capote a wonderful writer of prose, but I can't read him. When this story was relatively new, I bought and read it. I thought Capote's writing over-elegant for the character of Holly. By the time I reached the end, I felt very unsatisfied with the book as a whole.
I first heard Moon River by Jerry Butler.
I love the song, whether by Mancini, Butler or Andy Williams.
I thought there were some elements of the story that might translate into an enjoyable film. But, I set out to watch it two times, separated by several years, and did not stay with it til the end either time.

@edgarblythe,
Tiffany's was a movie that defined the end of a style era in New York. Hepburn made the movie great. Mickey Rooney almost ruined it.
Fast Forward through his schtick.

@panzade,
I forgot to add, that is the one roll I ever disliked from Mickey Rooney. I have loved his acting my whole life, aside from that.

I didn't see the movie, y'all. I was more intent on Johnny's REAL moon river and the message behind it.

I read that story, letty. It is more compelling than Capote's tale, in my opinion.

I think Pancho and Lefty was already posted but this is such a great version with Willie Nelson (one of the great American voices . . . thinking of seeing him when he comes to Mountain Park) and Merle Haggard (heard the American Masters piece on Merle was terrific . . . catch it on your computer if you haven't seen it).

As for Pancho and Lefty, Townes, you are missed, profoundly. Townes lacked Willie's velvety sound but he was Townes Van Zandt.

@edgarblythe,
I liked a series Brennan did after his long running success with the Real McCoys. The Wiki article mentions a series called The Tycoon, but, I am not certain that was it. Brennan starred as suited, sophisticated person.

Interestingly, although he played hillbillies and starred in Westerns, he was from Massachusetts. He was also a staunch Republican. Brennan is tied with Jack Nicholson as the male actor who rec'd the most Academy Awards. They have three each.

I have enjoyed Walter Brennan all my life. That was The Tycoon you remember, I am reasonably certain. I think I liked him best as Ike Clanton and Roy Bean.
