Morning Melissa, Dutchy!

The Central Coast is knocking us all about at the moment it seems!

If you are interested, here is how I came up with the answers -

1A. Unpleasant sound from road behind disco (7).
Disco + rd (short for road) = Discord

1D. This type of clue correct and complete (9).
This type of clue (1D) = down + right (correct) = downright (complete)

2D. Tim insulating ? Now that's exciting! (11).
tim insulating is an anagram for stimulating = exciting

18D. Resilient Henry the fifth went after water source.
The fifth letter of Henry is 'y', a water source is a spring.
With the y after spring - springy = resilient

68A. Stand for something! (9).
Another meaning for symbolise

65A. Agronomist returned without sitar, almost famous for having one mate (10).
take 'sitar' from agronomist, leaves gonom, returned (reversed) = monog, take the 'f' from famous (almost famous), leaves amous. Monog + amous = monogamous (having one mate)

49D. Yes, if i'm fat, Vera cracks up (11).
'if i'm fat, vera' without the cracks (gaps) is 'ifimfatvera' which is an anagram of affirmative = yes.

Good luck to you both!

Hi Lezzles

Thank you for your excellent explanation how you arrive at your answers. I can usually find the answers but don't ask me how I do it, more guess work than anything else I think. You and Butterfly make a good pair, I don't think Lovatts could put one down that you both couldn't work out. Smile

Hi julksy

35a = glory (initials of words between original and honour)
42d = refresh (anagram of reefs and initials of red herring)
53d = endures (anagram of den and sure)

Hope this helps.

Regards Dutchy
