I've seen this more and more. It works on some guys <shrug>. Reminds me of the 80s.

EVERYTHING reminds me of the 80's!! I cannot believe how 80's-ish everything is these days, fashion-wise. I keep seeing things and saying "I wore that exact [bubble skirt, leggings, giant hoopish earrings] when I was 13!!!"

I don't actually like that very much. OK some of it I like. Not a lot.

Sorta like this if you ignore the pattern?

Or like this if you ignore, errm, everything else he's wearing (jesus)?

You see a fair bit of these 3/4 trousers here, of the sporty type that is... looks pretty good (much unlike that guy in the second pic above)

Re: skirts - A sleek design skirt on a man looks good... and it takes guts to wear that.

No go out here in Budapest tho - perhaps in Amsterdam or Berlin, but I've really only ever seen perhaps a handful of 'em.

Girls seem to like the idea though, the daringness / hipness of it - like, showing you're adventurous or something. Its yer fellow men who would kill ya.

Thanks for the laugh, Linkat. Laughing

I DETEST men in skirts!! That man has a hot bod, and still I am so turned off by the plaidy.
I don't like those skirts on women either. At all.
(they are for pedo-fantasies of catho girls under puberty, costume parties and fat gross irish men).

As far as the capri for men goes: sure, whatever. The second one Nimh posted looks fine. Tapered would look stupid, I think. Unless the guy is going for a femmey look. (not my taste, but to each their own).

YES, 80's is everywhere. I have been forecasting this for a while. No one believed me. Lord a mercy! The 80's is not something to be reproduced, geez. The only reason any of it was ok was bc it pushed some borders at the time and fitted the situation.
Now, it's simply bad taste without any of the sizzling attitude and defiance. lol. I think, anyways.

Besides, the new trend are pleated skirts. Last week I've seen several
men wear them - okay, admittedly in a part of town we so fondly call
gay-crest. They looked similar to this:

OK, wait - I hadnt seen the pic that went with this. Now I did Shocked

I just wrote: "Re: skirts - A sleek design skirt on a man looks good... and it takes guts to wear that."

But I was talking about those long, suave ones. Men in short skirts - or men in pleated skirts - or men in short, pleated skirts <gasp> - Noo-oooo-oooooooo...

I tried to like Hamish, the Scottish kilted husband, in Four Weddings and a Funeral--but no.

No man in skirt.

No man in Capris.

Apparently you missed Liam Neeson in "Rob Roy." Cool

Capris, however, are inexcusable.

Rafael Nadal

When I first saw Nadal wearing these in the French Open, I thought, "Wow, the 80's beach shorts look is back in."

I have a blue pair almost exactly like the ones on Nadal in that picture but then again, I'm European!

What's the big deal? I think I look good in them and I've never had adverse comment.

Short shorts are a no-no, however! It's not the 70s, thank heavens.

Yeah nimh it was the bottom one's color, but the style of the first one.

It's gotta be a metrosex type thing. Guys trying so hard to be trendy that they look gay. I guess some of these men are jealous that gay guys know how to dress. Almost seems like they are trying too hard to be hip.

I guess it is o-k for European men, kitchenpete - European men tend to dress gay any way.

That's not true, Linkat. Most European men wear great suit combinations,
more so than in the US, and I am surprised that kitchenpete is a capri
wearer Shocked

No man of mine will ever be caught in them, at least not alive.

The problem with them isn't so much they look terrible, but the fact it's a fashion trend adopted from women's clothing. Capris=women.

CJ - I'm making a joke.

Also - I have noticed in traveling to Europe it seems in many European countries - they men tend to dress a little more daring/trendy than in the US.

That is more as I am referring in my joke. Gay men tend to dress more daring/trendy and so do many Europeans.

Hmm .. not here. If its like in those pics, then you do see them a lot here - but not on hip-cutting edge types.

If anything, you see them on the gym-working out, bling-bling types. Not in the semi-alternative or arty cafes, but on the terraces where the newly rich twenty-somethings show off their stuff. You know, the "Energie" brand type. Lotsa those in Hungary.

Definitely men who would would rather be shot than wear a skirt.

(I kind of like them tho, regardless. The trousers, not those men.)

Guess codes are interpreted / followed differently everywhere.

You have a point. On a project in Germany, with significant US and mixed European colleague involvement, it was a standard joke that the Euros looked gay to the Yanks and the Yanks all looked as if their mothers had bought clothes for them to "grow into", i.e. 2 sizes too big.

Just different. If I find a picture of me in those shorts (I've never called them capris!) to demonstrate what I mean, I'll post it.

I think of most of the pants shown so far not as 'capris', but as 'clamdiggers' - in my memory of the fifties, capris and toreador pants were both tapered towards the bottom, toreador pants being longer. 'Course my memory may be wrong as far as what other people called shorter pants.
