Very Happy There's got to be a reference database that compares the cost of living in various international cities. Suppose I have $1000 per month and live in NYC. How much would I need for the same standard of living in, say, Madrid, Spain or Quito, Ecuador? Thanks

Just as an FYI, according to that link if you made $12,000 a year (you $1,000/month) in NYC you'd only need to make the equeal of $6,332 a year in Madrid to live at the same level.

The tests I ran were far far off the mark (it's saying you need to make more money in Brazil than in the US).

'Twas to be expected they spell many cities (including some of the top 5 biggest on earth) wrong.

Shocked When I punch in $12,000/year in NYC and ask it what I'd need to make in Sao Paulo it comes back with $7,960.

???? I'm confused! (Not that this would be anything new! Wink )

I compared San Diego.

San Diego 10,000

11,488 in "Sao Paolo"

They seem to be weighing New York pretty hard.

11,528 if you are moving from Palm Springs

10,361 from Boston...

My point is that Sao Paulo shouldn't be higher than anywhere in the US.

I think, that calculator is just fixed on salaries.

Good link, Walter, as always. Jo'burg as the cheapest makes sense, but who'd want to live there? LOL On our stop-over at the Jo'burg airport, a friend and I went up to the second floor cafeteria and ordered to large glasses of beer. The cost? .15c per. We were ready for more, but our travel companions told us we had to rush to our airplane. Wink c.i.
