Hi daygirl

Would love to help you but I'm not in possession of the Lovatts July Demon, therefore it would assist if you give the length of words, and any letters you may have, all these little things do make things so much easier. Smile Try to include as much detail in your queries as you can.

May I suggest the following answers to you queries.

For 106d, answer is possibly DHOW
For 118a, your answer GEWGAWS is correct
For 128d, your answer SLIGO is correct

For 135d I can suggest many answers, hence if you have any letters, let us have them and we shall try to find the right nation for you.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Dutchy,

I didn't give all my clues as I had a few. Seeing as you willing to help me and possibly many others who will read this here goes.

I have 94d shorting answer arcing but then 110a smart with 106d answer dhow I am confused. I now have S?I?H could the answer be SWISH?

That's one.

with 135d I have CLEE

133a flap I've got PANIC
122d stole I have SWIPED
139a Humdrum I have PLASTIC
127a asian fruit, star I have ANISE

I hope this is not too much trouble for you or too confusing. Thanks for any help

Hi daygirl

Without the grid it is rather difficult to give you an answer. Can I assume your query is from Lovatts July Big magazine? If so, I haven't received my copy yet, but have alerted someone who has and probably will answer your questions later on.

Have a nice day

Hi Daygirl,
I agree with Dutchy (as always) that 106 dwn is DHOW, and 118 ac is GEWGAWS. You have 133 ac right as PANIC, however 135 dwn should be CREE, and that makes 139 ac (humdrum?) PROSAIC.
94 dwn (shorting?) is correct as ARCING, with 110 ac (smart?) being SWISH (as in looking smart - looking dapper - looking swish!).
I hope this has been a help to you.

You've been doing these crosswords for ages. You won't know what to do with yourself once you receive 'The Lot'.

Hi snicks

"broach" is the word you're looking for.

Reference:

broach2 ( P ) Pronunciation Key (brch)
intr. & tr.v. Nautical broached, broach·ing, broach·es
To veer or cause to veer broadside to the wind and waves: tried to keep the boat from broaching to

Hopes this helps.

Hi catpen

Are you after "over-satiating"?

If so, I have 'cloying' for that.

I have 'offal' for 124d and 'haughty' for 113d. Hope this helps.

I you have something different just call out.

Regards Dutchy.

Thanks Dutchy. As always, you are very fast to reply . Just wondering, do you ever win any prizes from Lovatts xwords? I won some C.D.'s last month.

Thank you
Yay! It's now complete.

With regard to the comps, I've been getting "The Lot" now for 3 years and my winnings have ended up (roughly) paying for my subscription each year although the most I've won is $50 amounts.

I went through a patch of making silly mistakes in each of the Demons or Stinkers - embarrassingly enough never the mistakes Christine seemed to mention in the Judge Sums Up - but I'm a little more careful now and seem to win more prizes.

Mind you I'm a competition hound... perhaps that has more to do with it! Laughing

Thanks again Smile
