Hello to all I am hoping someone can help me to complete this cryptic
27a it might be a mess if soldiers eat there during the day (9)
35a eye expert I consult about head nurse leaving (7)
41a when lid is lifted, get a little bit extra (3-2)
42a choose spoken test relating to political polling (9)
46a standard first letter written to a woman (5)
51a is it produced by drilling into the liver of a cod (4-3)
44a ian is returning to egyptian desert (5)
6d the necessary means to be in which place with pacino (11)
28d free chicken twisted up in cravat (11)
29d extremely obscure instruction is a stumbling block(11)
There are quite a few this time however as hard as I try the brain does not want to work thanks again for any help very much appreciated

I have all the answers but can't break them down as well as our Cryptic Queen "Butterfly" can. Will try and persuade her to do the honours. Smile

Here we go:

27A. A place where soldiers eat during the day = Lunch Room
mess = lunch room
(Mess- A place where service personnel eat or take recreation)

35A. Eye expert = Oculist
head "Nurse" = "N"
"N" leaving the word "i coNsult" = icosult (which is an anagram of "oculist")

41A. Get a little bit extra = Top Up
when "lid" (top) "is lifted" (up)

42A. Relating to political polling = Electoral
choose = elect
spoken test = oral

46A. Woman = Norma
standard = norm
first letter = "A" (ABC)

51A. Is produced by drilling into the liver of a cod = Fish Oil
cod = fish
Is produced by drilling = oil

44A. Egyptian desert = Sinai
"Ian is" is an anagram of "Sinai"

6D. The necessary means = Wherewithal
in which place? = where
"with"
Pacino = Al

28D. Cravat = Neckerchief
"free chicken" is an anagram of "neckerchief"

29D. Stumbling block = Obstruction
extremely = "outer" letters of
"OBscure inSTRUCTION"
