c.i. : great pix ! thanks !
brings back wonderful memories .
(i recall when we visited the 'hermitage' , i was looking for a bathroom .
there were about a dozen guys ahead of me and a sturdy russian lady stood guard .
i took a dollar note and quietly passed it on to her . she grabbed me by the sleeve , pushed the other guys aside and with a smile opened the door for me Shocked !
when i reappeared she gave me a big smile and said "thank you !" .
what a good old dollar won't do ! it even opens the loo Very Happy !

Hi hbg, I used to make big albums of photos on every trip to save for posterity, but no longer. I have shelves full of photo albums that I've devoted much time and money, and they will sit there without much attention from family or friends. I browse through them once in a great while, but they become fewer as the years go by.

I made a small one for Russia, but that'll probably sit unfinished for awhile.

Didn't make one for the April South America trip with all the pictures of Igassu Falls that came out pretty good. I'll make prints for friends and family that would like to have a copy.

I still like to fiddle around with my Epson 1280 printer - as a hobby.

hi , c.i. !
same here , lots of albums in drawers and on shelves .
didn't print any pix from our south-america cruise yet - perhaps just afew for friends .
i have to admit , i still have a 'learning curve' ahead of me to be able to get a good understanding of digital photography .
it's just so easy to slip that little camera into the pocket .

Hi ci, I am taking this same trip on 7/25 and your description and experiences really have me psyched. Your pictures are awesome, what type of camera did you use? psitticus

psitticus, First of all, WELCOME to A2K. I now bring two cameras with me on trips. I have the Olympus Stylus 800, a all weather camera that I use for night, inside, and cultural show pictures. All-weather also means, I don't have to worry about rain. It's a 8 MP camera that I carry on my belt. The other camera is the Konica Minolta, DiMage Z5. I bought this camera, because it has a 36-420mm zoom lens. I like this camera for the ability to take pictures pretty far away from the object. It's only a 5MP camera, but it's sufficient to make 8.5 X 11 borderless pictures. This one usually hangs loose from my shoulder - in front, side, or back.

I saw a professional photographer with two cameras hanging from his neck with one strap shorter than the other, so the cameras didn't bang together. I've been using that idea ever since.

As you probably know, this was my second trip to Russia. I enjoyed it tremendously; much more than my first trip.

I'll be happy to answr any questions you might have. I'll make only one suggestion now; when in Moscow and St Petersburg, don't carry around your passport and lots of cash (just enough to last you for the day); and keep your wallet in your front pocket.

With the "slowdown on other threads," I thought I might post some more pictures of Russia.

If anybody would like a hard copy of any of the pictures posted, please send me your "real" name and mailing address by PM.
