Need recommendations on reasonably priced lodging in London

I'm going to attend a family wedding in London and would like some suggestions for reasonably priced hotels or B&B's that are fairly central, clean and have a decent breakfast. I've done some research in TripAdvisor.com, but thought I'd ask for more feedback/suggestions on this web site. The wedding is on September 3rd, and I plan on being in London from the 1st to the 5th of September. Thanks! Pat

I found great success simply going to the tourist office at the train station when I arrived in London or any other town in England. So I would think trying the tourist office if you like to plan ahead. I would just give them as much info as possible. Do you want a bath and toliet in your room or are you willing to share? Some B&B's offer a shower in your room, but you still need to share the toliet for example.

Reasonable London Lodging
I certainly don't have Oz dollars!! I just heard from my cousin and she thinks it would be easier if I stayed near to the wedding festivities and that's in South Hampstead, London NW6. She says it's a 15 min ride to central London (via public transport). A place right near her is The Dawson House, a B&B type of hotel. Anyone familiar with the Dawson House?

Thanks,
Pat

(I've only been to Heathrow Airport, never into the city of London.)
I'm posting mainly to bump this thread up in case some of our London or adjacent folks see it.

Smiles...

I used to live just south of the Oregon border, well, up 'til last December.

Have only been to Portland Airport, but have heard great things about the place.

Hope you have a fine trip. If you feel like it, come back and tell about it when you get back...

This thread has been idle for a while but I have been searching for inexpensive lodging in London. I am traveling with a friend of mine and will be in London for 5 days in the Spring. Looking for a place that is easily accessible and safe to walk to at night. The cheapest I've been finding so far is 70 BGP/night.

Thanks---PS, Pat how was your visit?

Every time I've stayed in London it's always been in the Bayswater area. Bayswater, the name given to the eastern part of the district of Paddington, is the small area of London. With many budget hotels built from older houses, Bayswater is a great option for the budget travellers. It's also a great area for transportation with several tube stations as well as Paddington RR station.

I've been there in the summer before and they rent out housing at LSE and some other colleges kind of like hostels. Might be lower end than you're looking for, but is certainly a good wya to do it on the cheap!

Has anyone heard of the ACE HOTEL, in Kensington? How about Globetrotter Inn London in
Ashlar Court, Ravenscourt Gardens, Hammersmith ? Palmer Lodge....these are places I've found using Hostelworld.com. they seem reasonably priced but I'm not sure about location.

Agreeing with Dys, although it's been 17 years since we were in London, but found the Bayswater area really handy. Train from the airport to Paddington station. Lancaster Gate tube station nearby. We stayed at the Dylan Hotel.
