What proportion water to suger is best for hummingbirds? Is the recipe the same for warm and cool environments ie desert and mountain? Or do they like it sweeter when it's cooler?

If I'm not mistaken, it's four parts water to one part sugar.

yep 4 to 1, if you make it thicker, the sugar will begin crystallizing
