But the month is barely half-over! Luckily it ends in a holiday... it's just one long party.

Bass is right.....And I agree, to me there's no horn prettier than an alto sax. To me Johnnie Hartman, Hank Crawford, and Charlie Parker, had the prettiest tones.

I love lower overtones of a horn (especially of a tenor saxophone).

I'm particularly fond of well-played French horns and cellos.

Favorite sound
there are two. Both remind me that there still exists. less than perfection, but better than perfect.

The sound, during an opera or a concert.. of the page being turned for the musician. I will listen to a piece of music through to the end, just to hear that exquisite sound. It is like a happy sigh.

The second sound, which I have been told by a professional ballerina is not meant to be heard. But it thrills me. At a ballet, I close my eyes, tune out everything else, and listen to the leather of the ballet shoes hit the floor. Poor dancing, so I have been told. Ahhh, but what a sound!

Mmmm. I used to spend a lot of time around dancers, and I loved the sound of their feet on the floor when there was no music. Slides, soft bumps, sometimes a squeak if someone spun barefoot on the hardwood. Never a loud landing, if they were any good.

Forgive me......haven't read through all the pages.....

My favourite sound is my son saying 'Hi Mom ~ I love you!'. Which I heard several times today.....happy, happy Momma!

Second to that is hearing my kitty Lacey meowing for me at the front door when I come home from work.....

Lorna,
..I suppose one of your least favorite sounds must be, "And here comes comes Benitez, to try and hold the lead." Crying or Very sad (Yeah, I'm a fan too)

I've got to comment on this oft used oxymoran; "The sounds of silence" I'm not being nitpicky, I know what you mean. It's just that I don't ever recall experiencing complete silence. There was always something; the hum of an appliance, distant sounds of the night,...something. Has anyone of you ever experienced, complete silence?

Boo, I realize what you're saying, but actually sounds of silence in this context is simply a metaphor for being alone, whether chosen or imposed.
