Morning all, all clicked....
The 1961 class get together was great. I saw one classmate that I had not seen in 45 yrs. Today is the BIG meeting of all classes from 1957 through 1963 - it requires that number of yrs to actually have enough people to hold the reunion. Oh, well.
One of the pictures published online in the news:
Flooding in Styria.
A rather wet start into summer.
Hi danon,
I also graduated in 1961, from Pleasantville High School. Yes, there really is such a place, and I was there. About 50 miles north of NYC.
I have never been back for a reunion. Maybe too ashamed and timid about what became of me - after all of that promise. Maybe too disinteristed or poor.
But I would be interested in hearing about yours. I know that Ellen DeGeneris graduated from where you are, if not from where you graduated from......
Ul,
All of that fl;ooding, as usual?
Please change your avatar. I fear that you are influencing the weather.
s
No flooding as usual- normally May and June are warm and nice, this weather is unusual.
Well, I am going to change my avatar when I don't need that outfit anymore going to work.

Today is Pentecost, so we are having a long weekend.
These flowers are peonies, here they are called Pentecost Roses.
They are in full bloom now.
E ah, (Ich auch) ul..........I can smell the flowers now.
Well, the reunion went very well. The first evening my class of '61 met at one of the classmates home. I could remember almost everyone, except for one lady - a bit later when we were all called inside the house for a bite to eat I said to her, "How good to see you again." To which she said, "I was not in your class, I am here with a friend."
The rest of the evening went ok with lot's of laughs.
Yesterday, upon arriving at the meeting place for Saturdays BIG get together with all seven classes - one of the first people I saw was the same lady - I went straight to her and said, "How good to see you again." She laughed out loud and said, "Well, this time it's appropriate."
As always it's great to see people we knew when we were young - a big difference now is that instead of talking about the girls - we guys are talking about our ailments and doctors. Same with the girls. All about this hurting or that hurting and what to expect next.
I can hardly wait till the next reunion.
Uh huh..........
all clicked.
Reunions are, uhhhh, interesting.
Yeah, that's it.
hamburger's gone back to Hamburg for quite a few of his school reunions in the past decade or so. His schoolmates seems like more fun than mine. Maybe mine aren't ripe yet?

Egads, this thread has gone fast.
ul, Your new avatar is pretty. Who is the dancer? It looks like one of the 1920's - 30's dancers - Billie Holiday??
all clicked and ready...............
Not ripe yet.... ehBeth, that's funny.
sumac, Yes, 1961 was a good year to graduate. It started the decade of free thinking teenie boppers.

No, Danon.
That's Josephine Baker. American born but French by adoption. She used to have two loves: her country (US) and Paris.
Yes, Francis is right.
Josephine Baker was born 100 years ago in New Orleans.
I didn't know she was adopted, I know that she herself adopted 12 children of different nationalities - the Rainbow family.
J'ai deux amoures- one of her most popular songs and several more were on air in a feature connected to her aniversary several days ago.

Maybe my poor choice of words, France adopted her...
Or my poor English.
You said France adopted her- that means she was offered the citizenship? She didn't had to ask/ apply for it?

It was rather easy for her to acquire the French nationality (1937) as she married a Frenchman, Jean Lion.
She would be offered the nationality, anyway.
The French loved her very much so that's what I meant by France adopted her. She had many official French awards.
I had the great pleasure and privilege of seeing Miss Baker in person and hearing her speak. She came back to the USA, briefly, to participate in the March on Washington in 1963. She was on the speakers' platform along with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in front of the Lincoln Memorial and spoke before him. At the time I didn't realize that I was hearing a speech which would go down in history and be quoted over and over in time to come -- King's speech, I mean. It didn't impress me as much as Miss Baker's simple homily. One of the things she said to the multi-racial audience gathered on the Mall by the Reflecting Pool was this: "It's so great to be here and see you all together. You belong together, like pepper and salt." I was impressed. And some young person, standing next to me, asked me, "Who is Miss Baker? Do you know?" Well, I did know and was shocked that anyone who had come to participate in that march would not know.
Thanks for the great info, Francis. That is very interesting.
And, we have a celebrity in our midst - the Merry Andrew........ Wow. What an exciting event to have participated in.
Thanks for the link, ul.
I've been reading a biography of Josephine Baker. Truly an interesting personality. I keep trying to get to Chez Josephine in New York.
