Hi,

I really need some help to organise an excursion to London for school.

1) Does anyone know how long it takes to travel by plane from
Eindhoven Airport to Heathrow Airport?

2) How long does it takes to go from Heathrow Airport to the Britisch
Museum by touringcar?

3) How long does it takes to go from the Britisch Museum to the London
Eye by touringcar?

4) What is the nearest park by the London eye and how long does it takes
to go there by touringcar?

5) How long does it takes to go from the park to The BFI London IMAX
Cinema by touringcar?

6) How long does it takes to go from The BFI London IMAX Cinema to the
London Dungeons?

7) How long does it takes to go from the London Dungeons to the pizzahut
at Regent street by touringcar?

8) How long does it takes to go from the pizzahut to the Cambridge
theater by touringcar?

I hope someone can help me out!

Hi Dree, a bit more info, please. When you say "touringcar", do you mean a taxi? Hire car? Minibus?
How many of you are coming on the excursion?

Basic answers for now.....

1. Don't know, but there are plenty here who will.

2. Depends what time of day. You would probably be better off going into London by train (direct from Heathrow Station) and getting a taxi.
If you are getting a Hire car, it would take about an hour, including the time to find a parking place, in normal traffic. Double that time for rush hour.

4. St James's park is just across Westminster Bridge, about five to ten minutes walk from the Eye.

As far as all the travelling in between certain places goes, you would be MUCH better off using a taxi, or Underground (tube).
Driving from one to another does not take a lot of time, but the problem comes when you want to park somewhere.

My advice? Forget the Hire car, as you are in London all day, and everywhere is pretty close, when in London.
Use the money saved on the car to spend on taxi's. The train service from Heathrow to London is excellent.

Google a map of London, or buy one at your local bookshop, and ENJOY!!

I hope the weather is good for you, and welcome to A2K.

Set, isn't this internet lark a wonderful thing. Who'd have thought twenty years ago, that you could do all this malarky at the touch of a button?

Dree,

Eindhoven to Heathrow should take about an hour.

Lord Ellpus is correct in his assessment of London traffic conditions and having once taken a school party to London by coach ("touringcar") I can tell you that transit times across the city used to average only about 20 km per hour. The underground may be preferable provided that your party is intelligent enough to stay together, and I believe you can economise by using day rover tickets in the inner zones

I advise you not to be too ambitious in your itinerary. The British Museum alone can take half a day to do it justice as can the Science Museum which is perhaps a more interesting alternative for schools, and has its own IMAX cinema.

Id say from The British Museum to the London eye would take about an hour to walk and between 20-30 minutes at most by taxi or bus depending on stops and traffic. The nearest underground station is Holborn.
I believe there is a bus route that goes from British museum to Westminster bridge which is right next to the London Eye.

There is Archbishops park which Id say is a 10 minute walk from the London eye on the same side of the river.

While your in the area I recomend a trip to the Tate Modern and The Globe theatre which are next to each other.Took me a half hour brisk walk to get there from Waterloo station.

Does anyone know how much it costs to rent a touringcar (coach) for one day in London?

Hi Dree, I don't know how much a coach would be, but I have provided some links for you, to assist in your quest.

The first is a list of various coach companies, one of which is the "Little School Bus Company", which is located in Hounslow.
Hounslow is just down the road from Heathrow.

The next is for the Government offices in London, including the Mayor's office. They will be able to either give you advice, or at least give you relevant contacts, telephone/email details etc.

Just out of interest, how many will there be in the party? ...and how old are they?

My wife, up until a year ago, worked in a London school (11 - 18 year olds) and they had regular exchange visits with schools around Europe.
Maybe that might be worth considering in the future. A weeks exchange will mean that your students would have ample time to really see all the important things in London, and then the English students could have a week in your wonderful country.
Just a thought.

Anyway, I hope these links are helpful.

Hey thanks for the information.

Actually I'm not organizing it for my students, I'm a student myself.
It is a project I have to make on school.
