a/t to newsclip on CCB there seems to be some doubt about the hatching ? apparently what looked like "eaglets" hatching were just some eagle feathers . i also understand that the "eaglets" are overdue and there is doubt as to whether they'll hatch ??? did i get this right or did i look at different "eaglets" ? hbg

FiNALLY, I got a glimpse of the eagle. Didn't see any chicks but it's very early yet.

Still no births over on the Water Street site.

I'm not sure on the exact date the chick is to be born, but my understanding was that it was sooner, rather than later.

By the way, the location is Hornby Island, in the Strait of Georgia.

Wild Watch Cam's eagle nest in Washington seems to be a little further along. One or more seem to have hatched.

Well, the baldie is beauiful, but not doing much. The background birdsong is fantastic!

I just caught the changing of the guard! The current sitter called out a terrible racket. The second came, they swapped exposing the single egg for a very brief time. The second sitter fussed fussed fussed with the dried grass, tucking it under her/him to buffer the egg. That is a seriously windy nest sight...

Only one egg? Heavens, I hope all is okay. At one point, I saw 2 eggs.

I was pretty focused on the birds, so, maybe I just missed the second one.

Let's hope so.

At about 3:45pm Pacific time it sure is windy there. The feathers of the sitting eagle are going every which way. Brrrr...

Well, Bald Eagles are fish eaters, they live by the water. They MUST be used to a brisk breeze!

Most of you folks probably don't know where Hornby Island is, so I've posted a map here. Just off the east coast of Vancouver Island.:

Actually, sadly, it appears Kris is right.

On late night news, I caught a story on the eagles that there is only one egg in the nest now. The second one has disappeared.

I find it hard to believe that it would have fallen out. Would one of the eagles have pushed it out knowing that it was infertile (or whatever?)?

Anyways, apparently the single egg is overdue to hatching. I hope it's okay.

Was watching this morning, but wasn't able to catch a glimpse of the egg. Nothing new to report.

Whnoa! When did that happen? Little gray chicklet getting up and trying to walk. Doting mom-or-dad sitting beside them, making sure nothing comes near to attack, and every once in awhile gazing down fondly/fiercely. Hope this pops up quick on everybodly's new posts list, so they come and see.
