Yuck!
I don't do mold challenges.
Damn! T and I were hoping to grow mold together.
I'm in. Avos are 10/$10 at my local market and there's always room for guacamole!
Okay so far we have the following enrolled in the challenge:

Sozobe

It's avacados at high noon (PST)!
And what time is that Central? Remember, we're on daylight savings time now....
And can I substitute an avocado?
Noon here will be 2:00 in Texas.
I'll see if I can pick one up this weekend.
They're not inexpensive here. (10/$10 is swoon worthy)
Alright already, did you get them planted?
I planted one -- bigendian down, in soil.
I tried to peel that papery stuff off but didn't get too far.
I have another to plant.........
.... tomorrow?
Maybe I will try the water method with this pit.....
ooh, you're right here, boomer, right here!!! <pointing to head and looking googl-eyed>
I came here to find this one and then got distracted by your thisness and thatness (will get to it). Have the pit, ready to go, was just looking for my link on what to do with it.
(All set -- three toothpicks stuck in, bottom half immersed in water. Supposed to take 3-6 weeks before I see anything happen, if it's gonna happen. Little tiny pit, but oh well. I got organic ones, figured they'd be more likely to sprout.)
All right, I'm in. I have two sitting in my window as we speak. I did have one that grew back when I was a kid. It got to be about a foot and a half tall so I put it outside. We promptly got a heavy downpour and the rain pummeled it flat. I think all I did with that one was to stick the pit right into a pot of soil. It sure was a gangly looking twig of a tree, maybe these will be stronger.
I have yet to start mine, but the lovely green eggs are just sitting in the refrigerator almost begging to be sliced and added to a nice turkey and swiss sandwich....
I just threw out my $%@#!! avocado pit.
The bottom kept getting pointier and pointier and I expected to see green any day... Then it didn't seem to get any pointier and just looked kinda sunken and sad so I finally ditched it. I think I might not have changed the water often enough.
wrap the pit in a wet paper towel, place in a sealed baggie and put in a drawer for 4 to 6 weeks. It will sprout in the baggie, place the sprouted pit in potting soil in a small pot, keep damp and provide medium light.
Hey, that sounds promising!
-signed, the eternal optimist
I'll try that too.
So far I have seen NOTHING in my avacado pot.
