Hmmmm - I would suggest ideally that exploration/discussion and attempted resolution are good - as is acceptance - at least in many social situations.
Avoid is common and sometimes useful.
Confront can be great, or not so great - judgment is called for.
Manipulation? I am generally against it.
Instigation? Love it! See this thread.
