Do people respond to you seriously when you are kidding?

You could have fooled me. You look decidedly spacey on that little picture under your name...

To answer the original question, yes. I think I'm just too good an actress - and too good at playing the "straight man".

mr glitterbag and I were visiting my brother and his wife right after daylight savings time. My brother and I were brought up in a house where everyone was poised to jump on the straight line. So, my brother asked about our dogs, and in all seriousness (meaning I was actually just making an observation) I said "It's so odd, despite the time change the dogs never miss a beat and always start asking for dinner at 4 o'clock." My sister-in-law (who apparently was trying to make sense of this) asked "How do they know what time it is?" Mike and I turned at the same time and said "They look at the clock". She didn't think that was very funny.

Love the polish color!

I used to have a favorite blue from OPI. It looked like denim - was my favorite. Unfortunately I can't find it.

Setanta's always having to tell me when he's joking.

I tend to be pretty literal, and there is a whole group of things that I just don't 'get' joking about. I'm not always a good audience.

I like several OPI colors, too. This one is my favorite...Redipus-Oedipus. It's a changeable frosted red that has glints of both coral and hot pink. Goes with everything, and despite the way this photo looks, it isn't too bright for pale skin.

I'm wearing it on my toes right now, along with a few clear Swarovski crystals glued across the big toenails, just for fun.

I work with someone, who honestly, does not have a sense of humor.

Not that she's dour or anything...she just absolutely does not "get" jokes.

If everyone starts laughing at something, she will too, but it's alway over the wrong part of whatever happened...the part that wasn't funny.

One time I told her a story about how the day before someone called and I let the answering machine pick up....It was this woman, Vicky, for whom my husband was building a gazebo. He had put up the foundation and was coming back in the morning. She must have come home from work and been surprised my the progress.

The message, which I sat there and listened to, laughing, went something like this...."OMG, it's so BIG, I can't believe how BIG it is, it's so much larger than I thought it was going to be! It's so great and I love it! Tomorrow when you come back I'll have a check for you, I'll leave it for you on the counter. Oh God, it's just so BIG!"

So I told this chick at work, and she started laughing too....and she said "Yeah, I've always wanted a gazebo."

Eva - sometimes I buy the polish just because of the names....

They put out a line in honor of the new Mustang....one was called "You Make Me Go Vroooom"

others like....saki to me

aphrodite's nightie
chick flick cherry
melon of troy
you're a pisa work
a peony for your thoughts
tijuana dance?

I have forbidden myself to buy any more until I have reasonably used what I have.

Good thing for nail polish thinner!

BTW, that is a very pretty color.

Gawd, that happens to me ALL the time! I think it's because I'm fairly quiet most of the time, so it surprises people that when I do come out with something, it's always a joke of some kind- they expect me to be too demure and shy to be kidding with every word that comes out of my mouth.

And, yeah, I have had the experience of feeling too bad after someone takes me all seriously to tell them I was just joking... Rolling Eyes

I also have coworkers that just don't have senses of humor, that's definitely part of the problem for me. I was looking at an editorial cartoon at work the other day, and I took it to show one of my bosses and her mom-- biggest mistake I've ever made at work...

It showed a huge violent mob protesting the Mohammed-in-a-cartoon thing, all with signs saying horrible things like "Kill them!" and "Cut off their hands!" and "Cut off their heads!" --and then two men in the foreground saying, "Just watch some political cartoonist twist this around to make us look bad!"

First they asked which part they were supposed to read (it was a ONE PANEL cartoon!) and then they took about three minutes to read the damn thing, and then after all that time, they both just nodded all seriously and said "Yeah, I heard about that." Jeez...
