Geometry test question that I think is impossible.

I recently came across this problem on a test and I have asked my teacher and fellow students and spent about an hour on it. I don't think its possible.

Also, I forgot to mention, that the lines are all strait lines. If anyone can figure out if this problem is possible and explain it to me, I would really appreciate it. It's kind of important.

If that's a straight line, I don't understand how w can be anything except 65 degrees.

How did you get that?

0 < w < 115

That's as good as you can do with the given information.

In the drawing, x looks like about 90 degrees, not 65. That's kind of odd.

By making a fatal error in my calculation. Sorry.

That is a phenomenally badly rendered figure.
It's misleading in the extreme, although they do say it's not to scale. They just don't say it's not to any scale !

There are no parallel lines and so the only angles you can get are the internal angles of the right hand triangle. 115 and 15 degrees.

Unless it's in some other geometry that hasn't been stated the question can't be answered.

Or has my basic geometry failed me completely ?

I tried using similar triangles -- no go.

The lower of the two smaller triangles is 50-115-15

if from there you subsitute the four possible values for W they can all work ie

if W is 95 the unmarked angle is 35
if W is 100 " " " " 30
if W is 105 " " " " 25
if W is 110 " " " " 20

Insufficient information is my conclusion...

Thank you everyone. I was pretty sure it wasn't possible with the information. I recently had that as an SAT question and I'm pretty certain that was all of the information given so, I think it was either in the experimental section and there is no correct answer or maybe they made an error.
