21 across -- beggar?? Just a guess.

I've never done this crossword, so its pure guesswork.

Fawn = beige
start of look = l
beigel is an alternate spelling of bagel, which is a food.

I just googled beigel and that seems to be the answer!! Thanks to both of you for taking the time to make these suggestions.

Nothing awe-inspiring coming to me on that first one anng. Have been giving it some thought, but no luck so far.

shrub second nasty skeeter's skirting
shrub - the answer is the name of a shrub, bush or tree
second letter of nasty - a
skirting - moving around - denoting an anagram?
leaves us with - askeeters - (5,4)
second word possibly tree; if so,
first word must be an anagram of ASKES

and nothing comes to mind.
Will keep trying.
Maybe I'm completely on the wrong track!
