his father cried potato sized tears when his runt of a son was born fearing for his survival but the child grew to be a giant. which figure of irish legend.
Are you three on something illegal
dyslexia wrote:3? why do you ask?
Because dys I'm having a tiddly problem in trying to connect Joe Don Baker, or Edgar Winter or Harvey Mandel to Irish mythology
Are you saying the Irish have a mythology? I mean, other than the snakes and such. I knew they had potatos and soap. I hear it never rains in southern Ireland, is that true?
by the way thanks for coming to able 2 know with your questions, it's our purpose in life to answer them.
Is that the guy who emmigrated to the US and got an Ox named Babe?
A lovely blue ox she was.
Or would it have been Townes Van Zandt?
I'se gonna guess Setanta...Either our Set or the other one...
Haa haa haa, I see that I now have a different answer than I posted at first...<giggle> Elbridge Gerry, indeed...
Oooh! I KNOW this one!
Elvis Costello!!!!
Am I right? Am I right? Huh?
O.K. people I get the message you dont want to help me with this, Bye
Don1 - try posting this in history.
At least one of the people who'd be able to answer this never poke their heads into the Trivia and Word Game forum.
Actually, ehBeth, I would have thought this was the appropriate forum. Don1's question is obviously part of a trivia or word game competition.
That "experts" choose to denigrate the people and culture of any country because of their own ignorance, or inability to grasp the concept of life beyond their own borders is a sad reflection on themselves.
The only Irish Giants I know of are 'Finn McCool'
and 'Cuchulainn'
Don1, Ehbeth is right about posting in the history forum. Setanta is usually there and knows more about history than anyone I've ever known. He is also a giant of a man and is very Irish. He is a sweet, lovable giant of a man and could be the personification of the person in your myth.
Just don't get him mad.
As for the rest of us, we are really very silly but we gave some very good answers to different questions, don't you think?
Well, I was serious about guessing Setanta, because that was Cuchulainn's original name, wasn't it?
Yes it was. I'm thinking though, as potatoes weren't introduced into Ireland before the 1600s that perhaps the "giant" is a more modern hero.
Almost sounds like a character from James Joyce's "Ulysses".
