Hi Tigiie!

HANSE derived from the Old High German HANSA, and is, I think, the correct form. However, HANSA does still appear in some dictionaries, usually as "see Hanse".

I have not bought my April Big yet, any crossed letters?

Butterfly will no doubt be along soon and I'm sure she can shed more light on it.

Hi Tigiie, Lezzles, Cookie30, and Tuesday

It's good to catch up with everyone! Very Happy

For 7D. Medieval merchant guild, I've put 'Hanse', but my Large Collins English Dictionary also lists 'Hansa' as an alternative spelling, so I think Lovatts will most probably accept both answers as correct.

For 31D. Rock face groove, I have the same answer as Tuesday- 'Diedre'

Large Collins English Dictionary definition
Diedre - French. n Mountaineering. A large shallow groove or corner in a rock face.

Hope this helps.

Wishing everyone the best of luck in the competition!
Warm regards, Butterfly Very Happy

Hi Waack (Sandra)

For 84D. Vision check-up, I have 'Snellen' Test

For 100A. Overly showy, I have 'Flashy'

Hoping someone else can verify the above answers for you to make sure they are correct.

Hi Farkha,

Hope this helps.

For 129A. Monitor, I have 'Watch'

For 129D. Jot, I have 'Whit'

97D and 112A can both have at least 2 different answers. See below:

97D. Bits- 'Shreds'
you would then need to have
112A. Guarantee- 'Ensure'

97D. Bits- 'Scraps'
you would then need to have
112A. Guarantee- 'Assure'

Tricky tricky! Laughing But, I think both combinations should be acceptable to Lovatts, as all of the above answers are synonyms of their clues.

Hopefully someone else will be able to verify the above answers for you Farkha, to make sure they are correct.

Post again if you get stuck.

Take care my friend.
Warm regards, Butterfly Very Happy

April Demon
Hi All,

'diedre' is the rock face groove
'hanse' is the medieval merchant guild
I have kept an indexed book over a number of years and wrote down any extra difficult clues and answers that I have come across. It has been a tremendous help.
By the way my name is (obviously) Bev and I have just joined today.
I will always be happy to help. Razz
