Hi there,
I have recently purchased a new all-in-one (DVD player + stereo) home theatre system. It is a Panasonic SC-DK2. This model is probably 2 or 3 years old, but I purchased it brand new off eBay. I have only had this unit in my house for 2 weeks, and, up until now, the sound has been fantastic and I love watching DVDs with it. Yesterday, the unit ceased to output a video signal. I simply turned the unit on, and the TV screen was blank. I have checked and double checked everything. I have changed cables, unplugged the unit for 12 hours, read the users manual.. everything. It is not the television which is faulty, as other AV units (STB and PS2) work fine in the same RCA video input. I have tried every DVD tray (it is a 5 stack player), and tried many different DVDs. The thing is that there isn't even any OSD, like the DVD logo or the on-screen options. The TV screen is black. After all this checking I am sure that it is the stereo unit (specifically the Video output) which is faulty. The sound is still working perfectly, and the DVD sound is heard when a DVD is inserted. Because the unit is 2-3 years old, it is not covered by warranty any longer. I was hoping that maybe I could do a little DIY on it to try and repair it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Unless you have access to a set of schematics for the unit and the proper test equipment to troubleshoot it you aren't going to be able to get much farther than you already have.
You've got a broken connector most likely or a failed output component for the video display. If you paid a small amount for the unit which is no longer being sold, I'd take it to a authorized Panasonic technician. Diagnostics can cost from $25.00 to $75.00 which is usually absorbed into the cost of repair if you authorize it. I wouldn't pay more than $75.00 for the diagnostic and the repair is likely going to be at least $100.00.
