Bouquet of Roses - Eddy Arnold and his Tennessee Plowboys

I'm sending you a big bouquet of roses
One for every time you broke my heart
And as the door of love between us closes
Tears will fall like petals when we part

I begged you to be different but you'll always be untrue
I'm tired of forgiving now there's nothing left to do
So I'm sending you a big bouquet of roses
One for every time you broke my heart

---- Instrumental Interlude ----

You made our lover's lane a road of sorrow
'Til at last we have to say goodbye
You're leaving me to face each new tomorrow
With a broken heart you taught to cry

I know that I should hate you after all you've put me through
But how can I be bitter when I'm still in love with you
So I'm sending you a big bouquet of roses
One for every time you broke my heart

I'LL SAIL MY SHIP ALONE
Moon Mullican

We've been sweethearts for so long
But now you say, "We're thru!"
The love we shared is now a memory
I had built a ship of dreams
And planned them all for you
And now I guess what is to be will be.

CHORUS
I'll sail my ship alone
With all the dreams I own
Drifting out across the ocean blue
I'll sail my ship alone
Tho' all the sails, you've torn
And when it starts to sink, then I'll blame you.

I'm just like a ship at sea
That's lost without a sail
The dark clouds hide the sun from up above
And even with these broken dreams
My heart will never fail
For deep inside there's only one true love.

CHORUS

I gave a message to the wind
To take back home to you
Hopin' you would hear my S.O.S.
Maybe you would come back home
My darling, if you knew
How much my aching heart is in distress.

I Love A Rainy Night
Eddie Rabbit

Well, I love a rainy night
I love a rainy night
I love to hear the thunder
Watch the lightning
When it lights up the sky
You know it makes me feel good

Well, I love a rainy night
It's such a beautiful sight
I love to feel the rain
On my face
Taste the rain on my lips
In the moonlight shadow

Showers washed
All my cares away
I wake up to a sunny day
'Cos I love a rainy night
Yeah, I love a rainy night
Well, I love a rainy night
Well, I love a rainy night

I love a rainy night
I love a rainy night
I love to hear the thunder
Watch the lightning
When it lights up the sky
You know it makes me feel good

Well, I love a rainy night
It's such a beautiful sight
I love to feel the rain
On my face
To taste the rain on my lips
In the moonlight shadows

Puts a song
In this heart of mine
Puts a smile on my face every time

'Cos I love a rainy night
Yeah, I love a rainy night
Ooh, I love a rainy night
Yeah, I love a rainy night

Showers washed
All my cares away
I wake up to a sunny day
'Cos I love a rainy night
Yeah, I love a rainy night
Well, I love a rainy night
I love a rainy night
Well, I love a rainy night
You can see it in my eyes
Yeah, I love a rainy night
Well, it makes me high
Ooh, I love a rainy night
You know I do, yeah, yeah
I love a rainy night

I love a rainy night
You can see it in my eyes..

Going Nowhere
Jason and the Scorchers

She blew it all on alcohol and a bad Missouri boy
Sweet Loretta Farmington from Cairo Illinois
Daddy said don't leave us girl, don't throw your life away
She just smiled so young and wild, and all that she would say

Is, I'm going nowhere
I'm going nowhere
Saying I can't see tomorrow
And I'm leaving here today
I'm going nowhere
And at least I know the way

After dark in a trailer park with the bad Missouri guy
He pumped her full of jimson weed and blackened both her eyes
Morning found him sober, and begging her to stay
But he knew it was over, when all that she would say

Is, I'm going nowhere
I'm going nowhere
Saying I can't see tomorrow
But I'm leaving here today
I'm going nowhere
And you can bet I know the way

Thumbin' down the highway with her brand new baby boy
Sweet Loretta Farmington from K-Mart Illinois
21 and holding, looking 35
But holding her redemption, glad to be alive

Just going nowhere
Just going nowhere
Saying I can't see tomorrow
But I'm holding my today
I'm going nowhere
And at least I know the way

Just going nowhere
Just going nowhere
Saying I can't see tomorrow
But I'm holding my today
I'm going nowhere
Thank God I know the way

Back To The Well - Lee Roy Parnell

Got to get back to the well
Drink that livin' water
Dive deep in myself
Start feelin' like I oughta
Gonna get real still
Gonna get my fill
It's been a long, dry spell
And I got to get back
Got to get back to the well

Feelin' empty for so long
Wonderin' where my faith has gone
I think about how lost I've been
In a search that never ends
And I've gotta keep movin' on

Got to get back to the well
Drink that livin' water
Dive deep in myself
Start feelin' like I oughta
Gonna get real still
Gonna get my fill
It's been a long, dry spell
And I got to get back
Got to get back to the well

This life can be a great wasteland
You got to do everything you can
Only way to quench my thirst
Is start puttin' first things first
It's gonna make me a better man, oh, baby
I'm gonna get back to the well

Got to get back to the well
Drink that livin' water
Dive deep in myself
Start feelin' like I oughta

Gonna get real still
Gonna get my fill
It's been a long, dry spell
(Long dry spell)
And I got to get back
Gotta get back to the well
(Gotta get back)
(Gotta get back to the well)

It's been a long, dry spell
And I got to get back
(Gotta get back) whooo, oooh
Got to get back to the well
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
(I gotta get back, get back, yeah)

Get back to the well
(Gotta get back, whooo, oooh)

Been a long, dry spell
(Long dry spell)
(Gotta get back, gotta get back)
(Gotta get back, gotta get back)

(Gotta get back, gotta get back)
(Whoooa, gotta get back, gotta get back)
(Got to get back to the well)
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)

Lee Roy is one of my favorites...plays about the best slide guitar around...a triple threat...singer, songwriter and slide virtuoso. When he signed with Arista in 1989 he put out a horn driven kick ass album that signaled something new out of Nashville. But with no radio play he had to drop the horns in favor of the slide guitar.

Lee Roy scored a couple of #2's but in 1997 he parted ways with Arista. They issued a compilation called "Hits And Highways Ahead" that is one of the best "Best Of's you'll ever hear. Since then he's gone his own way...an album on folk-roots label Vanguard and now "Back To The Well" on an impressive new country label called Universal South.

I ran into Lee Roy back in the days when he was still headlining country fairs and we were opening for him. He wasn't very pleasant and said some disparaging things about our set...must a had a bad hair day.

Back to the song edgar...a great choice.

Well I think it's a Country Song

Winterlude

Bob Dylan

Winterlude, Winterlude, oh darlin',
Winterlude by the road tonight.
Tonight there will be no quarrelin',
Ev'rything is gonna be all right.
Oh, I see by the angel beside me
That love has a reason to shine.
You're the one I adore, come over here and give me more,
Then Winterlude, this dude thinks you're fine.

Winterlude, Winterlude, my little apple,
Winterlude by the corn in the field,
Winterlude, let's go down to the chapel,
Then come back and cook up a meal.
Well, come out when the skating rink glistens
By the sun, near the old crossroads sign.
The snow is so cold, but our love can be bold,
Winterlude, don't be rude, please be mine.

Winterlude, Winterlude, my little daisy,
Winterlude by the telephone wire,
Winterlude, it's makin' me lazy,
Come on, sit by the logs in the fire.
The moonlight reflects from the window
Where the snowflakes, they cover the sand.
Come out tonight, ev'rything will be tight,
Winterlude, this dude thinks you're grand.

Remember When
Alan Jackson

Remember when I was young and so were you
and time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I
We made love and then you cried
Remember when

Remember when we vowed the vows
and walked the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start, it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when

Remember when old ones died and new were born
And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each other's hearts
Remember when

Remember when the sound of little feet
was the music
We danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we'd never give it up
Remember when

Remember when thirty seemed so old
Now lookn' back it's just a steppin' stone
To where we are,
Where we've been
Said we'd do it all again
Remember when

Remember when we said when we turned gray
When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when

Labelled With Love
Squeeze

She unscrews the top of a new whiskey bottle
And shuffles about in her candle lit hovel,
Like some kind of witch with blue fingers in mittens
She smells like the cat and the neighbours she sickens,
The black and white t.v. has long seen a picture
The cross on the wall is a permanent fixture,
The postman delivers the final reminders
She sells off her silver and poodles in China.

Drinks to remember, I me and myself
And winds up the clock
And knocks dust from the shelf
Home is a love that I miss very much
So the past has been bottled and labelled with love.

During the war time an American pilot
Made every air raid a time of excitement,
She moved to his prairie and married the Texan
She learnt from a distance how love was a lesson,
He became drinker and she became mother
She knew that one day she'd be one or the other,
He ate himself older, drunk himself dizzy
Proud of her features, she kept herself pretty.

He like a cowboy died drunk in his slumber
Out on the porch in the middle of summer,
She crossed the ocean back home to her family
But they had retired to roads that were sandy,
She moved home alone without friends or relations
Lived in a world full of age reservation,
On moth eaten armchairs she'd say that she'd sod all
The friends who had left her to drink from the bottle.

Drinks to remember, I me and myself
And winds up the clock
And knocks dust from the shelf
Home is a love that I miss very much
So the past has been bottled and labelled with love.

The past has been bottled and labelled with love.

I Dreamed About Mama Last Night - Hank Williams

I've just been to heaven with someone so true
I dreamed about Mama last night
She read me the Bible like she used to do
I dreamed about Mama last night

She never close her eyes and sleep 'til we were all in bed
And on party nights when we come home she often sat and read
We little thought about it then for we were young and gay
Just how much Mama worried when we children were away
We only knew she never slept when we were out at night
That she waited just to know that we'd all come home alright

Why sometimes when we'd stay away 'til one or two or three
It seemed to us that Mama heard the turnin' of the key
For always when we'd step aside she'd call and we'd reply
But we were all too young back then to understand the reason why
Until the last one had returned she'd always keep a light
For Mama couldn't sleep until she kissed us all goodnight
She had to know that we were safe before she went to rest

She seemed to fear that the world might harm the ones that she loved the best
And once she told me when you're grown to women and to men
Perhaps I'll sleep the whole night through I may be different then
And so it seemed that night and day we knew a mother's care
That always when we got back home we'd find her waitin' there

Then came the night that we were called together round her bed
The children're all with you now the kindly Doctor said
And in her eyes the gleam again that old time tender light
That told that she's just been waitin' to know that we were alright
She smiled that old familiar smile and prayed to God to keep
Her children safe from harm throughout the years and then she went to sleep

My dream is a treasure that I'll always keep
I dreamed about Mama last night

My Bucket's Got A Hole In It - Hank Williams

Yea, my bucket's got a hole in it
Yea, my bucket's got a hole in it
Yea, my bucket's got a hole in it
I can't buy no beer

Well, I'm standin' on a corner, with a bucket in my hand
I'm waitin' for a woman that ain't got no man

'Cause my bucket's got a hole in it
Yea, my bucket's got a hole in it
Yea, my bucket's got a hole in it
I can't buy no beer

Well, I went upon the mountain, I looked down in the sea
I seen the crabs and the fishes, doin' the be-bop-bee

'Cause my bucket's got a hole in it
Yea, my bucket's got a hole in it
Yea, my bucket's got a hole in it
I can't buy no beer

Well, there ain't no use of me workin' so hard
When I got a woman in the boss man's yard

'Cause my bucket's got a hole in it
Yea, my bucket's got a hole in it
Yea, my bucket's got a hole in it
I can't buy no beer

Yea, my bucket's got a hole in it
Yea, my bucket's got a hole in it
Yea, my bucket's got a hole in it
I can't buy no beer

Big story-in a itty bitty song by Joe Diffie

Third Rock From The Sun

She walks into Smoky's one hip at a time like a broken field runner
Slippin through the line
He likes the way she looks so he calls the little wife says don't wait
up for me I'll be working late tonight
Wife hangs up the phone bursts into tears calls her sister up and cries
get over here

Sister tells her boyfriend be back in a while boyfriend wants a beer the
store is just a mile
He leaves the motor running he'll only be a minute
His car drives away with teenagers in it
Driver tells his buddies got one life to live
They spring into the night, let's get it over with

cause and effect, chain of events all other chaos makes perfect sense
when your spinning round, things come undone
welcome to earth third rock from the sun

The kid hits the gas car starts to swerve heads for a semi truck jumps
the curb
Truck hits the bigboy in the Shoney's parking lot flies through the air
takes out the bank clock
transformer sparks, lines go down, town goes dark

waitress calls the cops says she saw it all swears a giant alien has
landed at the mall cops ring up the mayor says there's panic in the
street we hate to wake you up but we can't find the chief
mayor says use your head if he ain't in his car
he's hiding from his wife down at Smoky's Bar

New) San Antonio Rose - Bob Wills

(Aaa-haaaaaw)
(Oh, come there, Leon)
(That's San Antonio Rose)
(Aaa-haaaaaw)

Deep within my heart lies a melody
(Aaaah, Tommy)
A song of old San Antone
(San Antone)
Where in dreams I live with the memory
Beneath the stars all alone (all alone)

It was there I found beside the Alamo (yeah)
Enchantment strange as the blue up above (up above)
A moonlit path only she would know
Still hears my broken song of love
Moon in all your splendor, know only my heart
(Aaa-haaaaaw)

Call back my Rose, Rose of San Antone (yip)

Lips so sweet and tender, like petals fallin' apart
Speak once again of my love, my own (aa-haaaaaw)
A broken song empty words I know
Still lived in my heart all alone
For that moonlit path by the Alamo
And Rose, my Rose of San Antone (yea)

(Aaa-haaaaaw)
(That San Antonio Rose, yes, yes)
