Hi, I have four questions of cryptic clues and all the answers are either plants or trees, both wild and cultivated, and whose names contain a reference to a country or place, so please if you can help me, it would be much appreciated'
1. Ivan initially could obtain many fine robes each year (7,7)
2. Line on the earth connects you initially to the papers (7,7)
3. Oddly large fat donkeys pull at nobleman's drink shrub (4,2,7,8)
4. Looks like a contemptible plant in Hamlet's lawn (6,6-5)

Thanks Smile

Hi Justaclue,

I agree with Scuby911 that the first answer you are seeking may be 'Russian Comfrey'.

1. Russian Comfrey
Ivan = first RUSSIAN tsar
initially = first letter of each word
Could Obtain Many Fine Robes Each Year = C O M F R E Y

2. Leyland Cypress
line = ley
earth = land
Connects You initially = C Y
the papers = press

4. Danish Scurvy-Grass
Hamlet = Danish Prince
contemptible = scurvy
lawn = grass

No luck as yet with number 3, but I'll keep trying. Do you have any letters that may help?

Regards, Butterfly

Hi justaclue,

The missing answer is:

Duke of Argyll's Teaplant

which is an anagram of "large fat donkeys pull at".

Isn't butterfly a marvel?

Good luck!
