Hi guys,

Was wondering if anyone can give me a hand with some of these clues. They have me baffled. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I'm head of police with the Spanish force - I?P?L (I think this is IMPEL but not sure why)
Stunt includes semi-deaf pupil - ?T???N?
Be at ease, hard worker - B?E (could this be as simple as BEE?)
Dependable political leader to wander north - P?O?EN (Im thinking proven but can't work out why)
Neurotic Mal adapted to new circumstances - ?A??D?U?T?? (I assume I have to figure out the anagram of neurotic mal but it does not seem to fit for me so I have stuffed up here).

Hi smcc!

Im +
head of police = p +
the Spanish = el
= IMPEL = force

Stunt includes semi-deaf
(semi = half of deaf = de).
Stunt includes de = stu(de)nt = STUDENT = pupil.

Be at ease =
B + EE(s) =
BEE = hard worker

Political leader = p +
to wander = rove +
north = n
= PROVEN = dependable

Mal +
adapted to new circumstances = adjusted
= MALADJUSTED = neurotic

According to me you were spot on with your answers. I have just mapped out how I arrived at the same answers. Good luck!

Hi smcc126 & lezzles

Just to confirm that I reached the same answers as you guys. The "Cryptic" Queen Butterfly checked my efforts and also agreed with them. Laughing

Hi Lezzles and dutchy,

Thanks for the information. I am glad I checked it out with you guys as I thought BEE especially was just too easy for a cryptic. Thanks again.

Actually Butterflt
Do you know of any other sites on the internet like oneacross.com? ( It seems to be offline a lot lately).
Somewhere that lets you put in a clue as well as a letter sequence?

I know, I know, It's probably cheating isn't it? But I guess we allneed a little help sometimes....hehe

Hi Julksy,

It's always lovely to hear from you Very Happy

Try www.onelook.com - it does all of the above, and gives you a large range of online dictionary references to choose from to verify your answer.

Also have a go at using their 'Reverse Dictionary' feature- it comes in very handy for some of the more difficult clues! Smile

I have rarely had any problems with the site being offline- it's very reliable.

Have a look and let me know what you think of it Julksy. I bet you'll end up saving it in your 'Favourites' list! Laughing

Take care my friend.
Warm regards, Butterfly Very Happy

PS- Don't forget to let me know if you get stuck on the new Holiday cryptic.

Hi Butterfly.

Well, I'm stuck. I've done the whole thing except one clue.....*L*

19D..Mid-March always? This is a dream.....R E - E - - E

I can't work out how to work out the clue to this one either.
I thought maybe an anagram of 'I dream'...but can't find one

Hi Julksy,

Hope you are well.

19D. Dream = Reverie
mid-March = R (middle letter of 'maRch')
always = ever
that is = ie
R EVER IE

Good luck in the competition Julksy!
