Hi Everyone

Am doing the Mega Stinker 45 and am having a few problems.

44a Hunter's camouflaged hut, I have HI?E, should this be hide?
26a As before (Latin), I HAVE I?ID (with ETUI for 11d, RIGI as 10d,
27d Train undercarriage, I have ??G?E.

I wonder why we don't get practice grid for the Mega Stinker if this is
"the world's toughest crossword!" as we do with the Demon.

If you can help with the above I would be very grateful.

Many thanks
Tigiie

Hi Tigiie,

It's good to catch up with you again! Very Happy I haven't started the Mega Stinker as yet but I went on a search for you.

26A. IBID - As before

27D. BOGIE- train undercarriage

44A. HIDE- noun Brit. a camouflaged shelter used to observe wildlife at close quarters.

Hopefully someone will be able to double check these answers, and make sure they are correct for you Tigiie.

Take care, warm regards butterfly Very Happy

Hi Butterfly

I have missed you and thank you for the answers,
of course, bogie is a train undercarriage but I couldn't find "As before" in the Latin Dictionary on
line.

I have read all the Lovatt answers that have been
posted lately and thought I was behind on the books so I have been tackling them with a vengeance so as not to get behind everyone.

I have also worked out that there are the same
grids in the Mega book that I can use as a practice
grid.

Many thanks again

Hi tigiie

I have also completed the Mega Stinker 45, pretty tough one this time, and agree 100% with Butterfly's submission. As always she explain's it beautifully.

Good Luck with your entry. Dutchy

tigiie,

Don't know if this will be at all helpful - it does mean extra work but I personally think it is worth it.

I don't always get through all the puzzles in the various Lovatts magazines. Noting that they use the same half dozen or so grids over and over, I periodically go through my old magazines and tear out unused grids, which I use as practice grids. When I have finished the contests I staple the practice grids together and have a record to check against the results when they come out, and also to mark odd or unusual words with highliter for future reference.

The drawback is transferring the answers from the practice to the "live" grid can be a boring task and this can lead to errors if you don't pay attention to what you are doing. Double or even triple checking of entries to ensure no odd letters have been omitted is essential.

Hi Lezzles

Haven't been on the computer for a couple of days.

Thank you for your advice on using the grids, I have also noticed over time that they use the
same grids over and over and I always use the
practice grid on the Demon but not usually on the
Stinker but will do from now on.

I have an A - Z reference book that I put the hard
clues and answers in and am going to transfer this
data to my PDA when I have the time. This way I
don't have to research them again. Of course,
time sometimes gets the better of me and I fail to
do this.

I haven't finished the Mega Stinker yet, still have
about a third to do but will try to finish it over the
next few days.

Many thanks and warm regards

Hi tigiie

84a = IMF (International Monetary Fund)

68a = idyll

62d = alar

I feel it would have been better to put up a new post, not many do see this one, but a fresh post is there for everybody to see.

Regards Dutchy.

Hi Dutchy

I thank you for your answers. You, Butterfly and Lezzles must be walking dictionaries, you are all
so knowledgeable.

I haven't finished this crossword yet so may need

Hi Butterfly and Dutchy

I have now finished the Mega Stinker 45 and am
now doing the Colossus No. 103 Cashwords, have
about 2/3 finished.

Today is my day for crosswords (I am on holidays)
as tomorrow I have to do my folk art homework
as I have a class tomorrow night. (Its amazing at
my age that I still have "homework").

Warm regards
Tigiie

Hi Dutchy

I think that I would spend my last dollar on the Lovatt Crosswords as they are so enjoyable.

My daughter only does crosswords/puzzles for the
prizes and has won many, one of which was a trip
to New Zealand for her family.

I used to do them for the prizes also but found them to be too easy and don't care too much about
the prizes (I have won 2 this year though, $20 and
an Electric Knife) but it is nice to be recognized sometimes. I do them for the pure pleasure now.

Best Regards
Tigiie
