I have two adult oscars for a yr now in a 60 gal tank. I just added a large algae eater a week ago. Now in the last few days I noticed my oscars are almost sidways, leaning against plans as if to have no energy at all. Normally they are very active through out the day. The new fish seems just fine. No funky smells and no didcolortion on either fish. They just seem sluggish and barly eating when that was the highlight of their day! Anyone have any idea what's wrong w/ my poor fish???
Thanks
When you say that you added a large algae eater, I assume you mean a fish?
Oscars are VERY territorial. Maybe they have gone into a big sulk? They are famous for displaying this sort of behaviour. Is the new fish aggressive towards them in any way?
It could also be that the new fish has introduced a disease to the tank....
...... possibilities that need checking out.... Gill fluke or HITH (hole in the head disease).
Good luck....and welcome to A2K, by the way.
No spot on thier bodies at all?
Do you have a light on in the tank? When you turn it on for the day... they dont react?
Are they swimming upside down at times?
I own nothing but cichlids, and have had alot of issues come up in my tank.
I had 2 oscars for 4 years.. ( then i forgot one day to put the top back on after cleaning... and.. well.. they jumped. :-( )
what it sounds like to me is swim-bladder.
Goldfish get this alot. And for them , what helps are frozen peas.
