Hi farkha

Long time no see, how are you, obviously still doing the Lovatts.

I don't know what the Spring Puzzle collection is, unless you refer to Lovatts Holiday Collection.

Our next issue of the Holiday collection is not due until 16th March. The Holiday issues have a Big Cryptic in them.

Post if you're stuck, I'm sure Butterfly be delighted to assist you.

Regards Dutchy.

Hi Both, thanks for responding. The UK issue says Puzzle Collection(No 43) Spring Issue - mayhaps different from your issue. Pl confirm some of these interlinking answers:
11a. Sting is dressed to the nines - smart
22a. The French ignore life's uncertainities - ifs
65a. Control limits of Dominican administration
- domination
56d. Remember dishevelled miner is extremely capable- reminisce
Likely that I may have these answers wrong - if so I will post the interlinking clues
Wish you good solving

Hi Farkha,

All of your answers are correct, well done!

11A. Sting = Smart
dressed to the nines = smart

22A. Uncertainties = Ifs
'the' in french = le
ignore 'le' in 'life's' = ifs

65A. Control = Domination
limits = outer letters of 'DOMINican administrATION'

56D. Remember = Reminisce
dishevelled 'miner' = remin
extremely of 'capable' = ce (first and last letter)
'remin' + 'is' + 'ce' = reminisce

Post if you get stuck, glad to help!

Warm regards, Butterfly Very Happy

Hi Farkha

Can't recall these clues from any recent issues, so we are likely to see them in the future.

As far as the answers is concerned, the "Cryptic Queen" has done it all in an unshakable manner. I meekly endorse them Laughing

Best of luck.

Thanks Butterfly, Dutchy. I guess that the UK issues are a little earlier than yours. Even though I have finished doing the Cryptics (closing date April 13) I will wait to get more confirmations until you get 'your Collection'. Don't want to take away the pleasure of the hunt before the 'Tally Ho' and hence my apologies for the pre-emption. I am relatively new to the Cryptics and at times have no idea what the clue suggests but stumble on the answer by the interlinking alphabets. Don't have the analytical mind of Butterfly, Lezzies and others. Thanks for taking the time to answer.
came across a gem - will share this with you:

God, grant me the Senility To forget the people
I never liked anyway,
The good fortune To run into the ones I do,
And the eyesight To tell the difference.

farkha,

That's okay - gone through life with too many crude jokes at my expense - the errant "i" makes a difference. I should be less touchy by now. Laughing

Dutchy,

I know they tried to take "UGH" boots Sad and now I see someone is trying to copyright "I AM", Shocked but I can't see anything about a copyright on the Serenity prayer. Of course I could be wrong (that's been known to happen) Confused

Seems it goes back to Boethius (480-524AD) in his "Consolations of Philosophy". It was adopted as the beginning of the AA prayer.

Do you know more on it than that? Very interested. Smile

Hi lezzles

Your defence to my remark is iron-clad. Laughing

Your version is one of several based on the original Serenity Prayer which dates back to times unknown. The author of your quotation is mentioned by all and sundry as "Anonymous", hence copy-rights are out of the window.

Hopefully to appease you completely may I quote the following version which I feel is appropriate under the circumstances:

God, grant me the serenity to accept people I cannot change, the courage to change the person I can, and the wisdom to know......that it is me.

Meanwhile, whatever happened to senility?
Thanks Butterfly, do post when you get your Collection.
Lezzles, Dutchy, heres is something more to ponder on:

He who knows much about others may be learned, but he who understands himself is more intelligent. He who controls others may be powerful, but he who has mastered himself is mightier still.
