44A. Action needed to get letter written = Keystroke
letter = a letter of the alphabet
crucial = key
blow = stroke

Thankyou so much, butterfly this helps heaps and I might take you up on that offer if I can't nut out the last couple, of course I've got more letters to work with now, but sometimes I get so far and just throw my hands up thinking I'mnevergoing to get this one.

Hey, I'm back

I have an answer, but I'd like to get your opinion(s), the clue is Social worker has set back after I do remedies, I have put antelopes
(elopes being an "I do=marriage remedy) but was'nt sure about the "ant" part of the word, am I right ??.

This answer also gave me another problem as the clue through it is

Christmas treats? Found a thousand of them in scattered pieces (5,4)

pattern I have is M?T?E?E?S

I know M is 1000 in Roman numerals, so that could fit, but the second 'e' coming from antelopes blew my first idea out of the water.

Your answer for 30d = "antidotes" which fit in with "mincepies" for 40a.

I'm sure Butterfly will give you a breakdown of the answers.

Tammyfinn, I have the same answers as Dutchy for those clues.

30D. Remedies = Antidotes
'setback' means 'set' back (reverse) = 'tes' after 'I do'
social worker = ant
'ant' + 'I do' + 'tes' = antidotes

40A. Christmas treats = Mince Pies
thousand = 'M' in roman numerals
'm' + 'in' +'pieces' is an anagram of 'mince pies'

24D. Protective cover = Cocoon
company = co
one company after another = coco
'coco' takes 'on' = cocoon
