I do post some topics, but not as many as some.

Acquiunk, gee, I often - probably always - appreciate hearing what you have to say, and wish you'd post more.

husker- According to the stats, I have created 686 threads.

I am listed as posting 17,603 posts, but when I go to "Your Posts" only 6,801 are listed. Maybe the hamsters only list the ones worth reading! Laughing

This is actually the mode most of us prefer you in, I am guessing ... ;-)

(Congrats on the renaissance)

Where do you fit in? Why?

I make as much trouble as possible, because it's fun . . .

I'm guessing you have posted 17,603 posts in 6,801 threads ...

I made 13,971 posts in 2,370 threads ... so I must be much more of a repeat offender (keep coming back to the same threads)

I created 210 threads ... scary, really. The least successful one was "Bloggers and rappers - same thing?", which I posted almost a year ago but still noone responded (101 views tho Shocked )

"Kuchma: another President-for-life i/t former Soviet Union?" wasnt too successful either, posted almost two years ago and only ever got 1 response, 78 views ... then again, it all depends how you look at it I guess. I mean, I posted that thread; and a year later, Kuchma is out! Now thats value for effort.

I post very little either threads or in discussions as mostly I seem to be out of sync with the majority of A2Kers and most of what I post is ignored. A post by me seems a sure fire bet to terminate a thread.Rolling Eyes But I do read (lurk) a lot as I find the conversations/discussions here to be both fascinating and instructive. This is a really great site.

When first i read this, my response, internally, was Nooooo . . .

I did not respond, and ought to have done.

I have always enjoyed Acq's contributions, and find them to be to the point and most often very perceptive. Acq also provides interesting links to off-site material which is always worth a look. If i have failed to respond to Acq's posts, it was not that i ignored him--either there was nothing to add to his succinct assessment, or i was off reading the pertinent and interesting link he had provided. One example which immediately leapt to my mind when i read this post was a discussion we had of New England smugglers in the thread i started on pirates. He provided an excellent link for that passage in our history, which is far more important than its obscurity would suggest. I believe Acq also provided a link for the treasure Captain Kidd was alleged to have buried in New England.

I am always glad to see that Acq has posted, and will click on any thread in which i see him listed as the most recent poster.

I agree with Setanta about Acquiunk. I don't always respond, but I always like to read him.

when i see 20,000+ postings, i realize that i'm not standing anywhere; mostly i just lie down and fall asleep, but that no reflection on the other posters. hbg

I have asked 74 questions and answered 1388 queries.
Recently and for other brief periods I have been mostly a lurker. I too have a tendency of killing a thread and finding other answers far funnier and more succinct. But there have been times when I responded a lot as well.
I guess it takes a while to warm back into the fray. To be honest, I think...for me anyway, Cav's death was too painful. I had been away, busy with life only to return and he was gone. I feel like I'd missed a wonderful opportunity to know him better. I barley knew him and yet he entertained and taught me so much, like so many here have. So I guess, what keeps me coming back, never really leaving is the sense of community, the shared experiences and the free eduction and of course the laughs.

P.S. Acquiunk I too think highly of your posts.

btw i have noticed that on several occasions my entry was the last one on certain threads.
trying to figure out if i'm just a little late in keeping a thread alive or if i'm the actual killer. hbg

I'd say, don't worry about it. Thread-icide is not an actionable offense . . .

I don't post very often in A2K, but I read some of it almost every day. When people ask "who are the guests?", rememer I could be one of them, because I don't log in unless I'm going to post. I'm not sure exactly why I don't post much - there are so many threads and I get overwhelmed by it all. And there are also many very intellectual people here who I wouldn't have a chance against in an argument, and I also feel somewhat intimidated by their briliant writing abilities. What's strange is that I feel like I know so many of the people here because I read them almost every day.

To sum it up, I'm a bit of a wallflower and possibly even a wimp. Besides, I spend a lot of time looking for my other shoe. (Anyone seen it?)
