Fish lovers?

My brother had a tank and we bought some Cichlids as well as a couple of larger Oscars... a very aggressive tank. It didn't work out to well. The oscars killed all but one of the cichlids. The last one managed to keep from getting eaten while at the same time nibble on the oscars fins until they became immobile and died. We never bothered to refresh the tank after that.

Oscars are Cichlids but, as you found out, a far more agressive variety.

If you and your brother enjoyed the colors of the cichlids, yet don't desire the agressivness, then I would recommend a group of Electric Yellows or maybe some Rams - probably the two most peaceful species in my experience.

I liked the Oscars. They were big and would just kind of float along. It was very relaxing until they started eating each other.

Mmm... Sometimes Oscars work, sometimes they don't. I've known people who can keep a whole school of them together, while others can only keep one at a time.

What is it about Oscars that you like that could perhaps be replaced by a less agressive fish?
