Hi Tamlou,

I've only completed half of the Stinker so far, and haven't yet covered those clues, so I'm hoping someone else may be able to verify my answers to make sure they are correct for you.

98A. Low point = nadir

94A. Raj military base = cantonment

I'm looking for the answer to 'naive' now for you.

Post again Tamlou if I can help you further.
Warm regards, Butterfly Very Happy

Hi Tamlou,

I think 85A 'Naive' may be 'simplistic'.

Hoping someone else may be able to confirm that this is the right answer.
In the mean time, I'll work on the surrounding clues of each and try to get back to you to confirm if they are correct.

69D. Author of Faust = Goethe

Post again if you need help, glad to assist.
Warm regards, Butterfly Very Happy

Hi Tamlou & Butterfly

I can confirm your answers Butterfly, I have the following:

85a = simplistic
94a = cantonment
98a = nadir

For 69d I have "goethe" and 96d "needle".

Hope this helps Tamlou, any more queries just ring the bell. Laughing

Thanks again Dutchy and Butterfly! I did manage to confirm those answers also... I was able to use a site you had mentioned in another post to help out - the onelook website. Very handy.
And yes, I did have Goethe incorrect, thus making simplistic difficult to insert!!
I am currently working on the Colossus Stinker No 102 - so no doubt I will be posting again soon as this one seems more difficult than most!

Hi Tamlou

Yes the stinker is a curly one this time, I have completed same, so if you're stuck, just post it here. I know the site "onelook" you mention, it is indeed very helpful when looking for definitions of words.

For 230d I have "iron ore"
For 268d I have "enamel"
For 254d I have "fairing"

For 274a I have "shia" otherwise "fairing" won't fit.

Hi tigiie

Firstly my apologies for duplicating some of the answers, I was unaware that "Butterfly" had answered most of your queries. I received your queries as a result of an e-mail and answered that directly without looking at the main thread.

As far as "newbie" is concerned as I understand it, a2k allots you this name as you commence with them. As you answer other queries from members or commence other threads yourself each item is added up until you reach a certain level, and your name changes. I don't know what these levels are but you'll find out as you go along.

I noticed recently when I reached a figure of 250 I was given the name of "enthusiast", before that I was "near enthusiast". The names I've noticed sofar are "newbie", "near enthusiast", "enthusiast", "veteran member" and "guru in training".

There is probably a full explanation for all these names somewhere on this site but I have not found it yet...being relatively new myself.

Have a nice weekend.

Oh Dutchy

Lets hope that one day we all are "Gurus in Waiting"
but it is very interesting seeing all of these names.

And thank you all for answering my queries.

I do find that if I leave the crossword for another
day, I can actually see what the answer should be,
sometimes I am just too tired to see it.

Thanks
Tigiie
