Hi everyone - just wanted to introduce myself as a new user of the forum, but as an old battler of Lovatts. I hope that along the way I'll be able to offer some solutions to posted queries, but I'm also here to pick brains when I'm stuck.

Ergo - does anyone have the answer to these two clues in the Holiday Collection 55 Cryptic

7d

48a

I just can't get my head around either of them.

cheers, Suse

Hi Suse and welcome to A2K.

There are indeed a lot of Lovatt's addicts on this board.

Then there are some of us who aren't but are occassionaly of help to those who are.

If you post the whole clue instead of just the intersection you might get some extra help!

Hi Suse

Welcome aboard. Watch this space and you'll soon get the hang of it. I have Lovatts Holiday No.55 so know the questions you are talking about, but many others have not, so like Boomerang, although willing are unable to help.

Boomerang here are the questions:
7d pattern established for Hemingway to be included.
48a roll fish over at tollgate.

My answers are: 7d = ernest 48a = turnpike

Suse you'll find somebody on this board will probably verify above answers and give a breakdown of them.

Good luck with your entries

Regards Dutchy

Hi Suse,

Welcome to A2K, It's nice to meet you!

I have the same answers as Dutchy for the two clues you are seeking help with.

7D. Hemingway = Ernest
'Ernest' can be found within the words 'pattERN ESTablished'

48A. Tollgate = Turnpike
roll = turn
fish = pike

Post again if you need any help Suse. Good luck in the competition!

Hope to talk to you again soon.
Regards, Butterfly Very Happy

oh, God. Turnpike! that is so obvious! Thank you so much. And yes, I thought Ernest but that means I have something else wrong... :-) Must get my brain to work harder.

Thank you for your advice on how to set out the clue. Much appreciated.

Suse

PS Just checked. I had bookkeepers instead of bookkeeping....
