I am a plodder, I do what I can by myself and I
then resort to the internet. I love all the Lovatt
crosswords and find some very easy and some
very hard.

Lovatts are great magazines, I never miss an issue although I find the going real tough sometimes, but keep plugging away and usually get there in the end.

I get the whole of Lovatts Magazines, I love them,
my daughter won't do them as they are too hard
and don't give reasonable prizes (and she has won
some wonderful prizes).

But I am past all of that, I just do them for the love
of getting them finished, I don't care about the prizes although I have won two in the last six months (but none before). It took me three years
to finish and send in my first Demon but I now finish them regularly and have even done the DIY
twice.

I have changed 11a Militant to Fanatic and
14d to Cruet and everything fits now.

I don't always finish the Stinker, time usually
beats me.

Tigiie, I'm not too close, but not too far from Sydney, if that makes any sense, (while still trying to be vague! )
I started buying the Lovatts books at least 6 years ago, could be longer. Began with 'Big', then gradually started to try out some of their other books and loved each one in turn, and so became completely hooked on them- although I didn't start competing in the Cryptic, Stinker, Baffler or Demon competitions until a few years ago. (never seemed able to complete the grids before the deadlines! )

I think I am almost the same as you, started with the Big about 4 years ago, took years to ever get a
Demon finished and still can't do Cryptics properly
(teaching myself) and time beats me usually with the Stinker but I usually get the Baffler in. I love the Starhunts but they are easy now but I get The
Lot now and do the best I can.

I have been to see King Kong today (3 hour movie)
with my 4 grandsons, the youngest 6 is a monster
and I knew I wasn't going to have a good day with
him when he asked me 15 minutes into the movie
if it was nearly finished and then again at least every half hour! Never mind!

Been doing crosswords for longer than I care to remember but in recent times have acquired a taste for the cryptics.

They give me a lot of troubles but our good friend Butterfly always comes to the rescue, she is marvellous.
