A man was arrested for stealing a car. When he was taken to court for his arraignment the judge asked, how do you plead? Instead of saying guilty or not guilty the man said: "Before we go any further, judge, let me explain why I stole the car." The judge ruled in record time

That's gotta be right up there, for sure.

A couple juvenile-type criminal masterminds locally (this is a rel rural area) broke into a house one winter afternoon a few years back. A neighbor noticed the breakin, and called the Sherrif's Department. The budding burglars escaped out the back way as a Sherrif's squad rolled up the long, long driveway. They managed to get into the woods before the Sherrif's Deputy got near the house.

Anyhow, the homeowner was contacted, and rushed home to survey the damage and inventory the house contents. Little damage, few things missing; some beer from the 'fridge, a couple bottles of liquor, some CDs, a Walkman, and a cellphone was about it.

Several hours later, well into the deep dark of the cold winter's evening, the Sherrif's Department got a 911 call from a cellphone. A youthful, somewhat tipsy voice poured out a tale of worry and confusion; the caller and his buddy had gotten lost in the woods, had no idea where they were or what to do, and were cold, hungry, and frightened. Technology being what it is, the tower from which the cellphone was in contact with the network was identified, narrowing down the possible location to within a few square miles. The dispatcher calmed the kid, and kept the line open as squads made their way to roads encompassing the general vicinity. When on scene, the squads sounded their sirens, providing a homing beacon of sorts the kids could orient on and make their way toward. The rescue was effected as intended. Of course, technology being what it is, the caller ID info for the cellphone used to make the 911 call was displayed to the dispatcher as well.

You guessed it.
