I am having problems with this problem. If you are able to explain and show me how to do it. It would be greatly appreciated.
Megan left Seattle and traveled at a rate of thirty-one kph more than two times the speed of Isaac, who left at the same time but in the opposite direction. After 1.22 hours, they were 133 kilometers apart. What was Megan's speed?
M=speed of Megan
I=Speed of Isaac
Given M= 2xI +31
Distance=SpeedxTime
Solve for I
---------------------------
133= (I + 31 +2 x I)x1.22
because speeds are combined for opposite directions
133/1.22 = 3 x I +31
109 -31 = 3 x I
I = 78/3 = 26
-------------------------
Solve for M
M = 2 x 26 + 31
M=83 kmph
Hey thanks
Hey thank you for the help on this problem. I will now be able to finish the other one's i have to do.

1. Megans speed was given as "thirty-one kph"
2. 1.22 * (31 + 31/2) < 133 kilometers
Are you sure you got the problem right?
No i am not sure i got the problem right i have not turned it in yet. If you have a different way to do it i would be glad to see it.
Oh wait, I misunderstood the information given, my bad. The solution above applies.
